Film Director Darius West Speaks on His Fight to Bring MIC DROP to Life

Serving as the directorial debut for Darius West, MIC DROP bridges the generation gap between today’s CHH artists and the legends who brought the genre into existence. More importantly, MIC DROP reframes the narrative to include the originators of a movement that no one genuinely understood, until now. “It’s been a long time coming,” says West, “we had to fight to bring MIC DROP to life, just like CHH’s founding fathers had to fight for the genre itself.

Holy Culture CEO James Rosseau observes, “Darius and his team include a ‘who’s who’ of pioneers, succinctly capturing their stories, lessons, dreams, barriers faced, and sacrifices made to further the cause. Whether you are a fan or co-laborer in CHH, this movie will inspire, galvanize and encourage.

Hip Hop is not a genre; Hip Hop is history. Using spoken word to personify oppression, perseverance and real life experience, Hip Hop transformed a source of expression into a culture all its own. Ignorance built a flawed perception around Hip Hop, barring its association to Christianity, and MIC DROP highlights the pioneers who broke that barrier down.

P.I.D (Preachers In Disguise) founder Fred Lynch concludes, “I still contend that there are a lot of folks standing on our shoulders, who will do it better than we ever had. But when you don’t know what you’re standing on… How far can you go?
