0Amari’Noelle: Pure Vibes
Let’s hop right into this latest single / video, “Unusual” — Tell me about this particular track; how did it come to fruition?
I wrote this track during the pandemic. Being stuck in house had my imagination on a beam, so my songs took me to the places I couldn’t go physically. When I heard the beat the intro sounded like a party which was different, but as it progressed it got super funky; which is right up my alley! I went and sat outside on my “thinking rock” and just played with it until I got what you hear as “Unusual.”
“Unusual” comes courtesy of your debut, Amari’ SZN 1 — Although self explanatory, still tell me, conceptually, what that title represents both to and for you?
Amari Szn 1 was my introduction to the world. 47 minutes of pure vibes derived from what I’ve been going through for the past 2 years.
As a songwriter, when you sit down to pen your lyrics where do you draw your inspiration from?
My inspiration stems from what I’m feeling in the moment. I like to call myself a “moody writer”…whatever mood I’m in is where my pen takes me.
All of this is actually also a part of the YOUTUBE FOUNDRY CLASS OF 2022 campaign — How were you even selected to be included in this elite group?
I didn’t expect to get selected, but because my hard work and consistency on YouTube they noticed me and I was picked! I’m so thankful and blessed to have this opportunity and see what comes.
Reflecting, tell me your whole inception into music — When did you first become interested in it? And, how did it all begin for the artist formerly known as Million$$Maddy?
Music has always been a part (of) my life. My mom is a singer, so growing up I would go watch her perform in shows, singing in the choir, plays and etcetera. I grew up participating in musical theater and performing at lil things at elementary / middle school. I went to a gifted elementary / middle school, so I was set to go (to) a high school focused on academics…but last minute, they moved the program to a local performing arts school; same one my mom went too! Lol! This was where I met my good homie, Khari, in my 9th grade gym class and asked him to be a part of their music group. From there, they taught me how to do everything…but ball was life, so I went that route. I got a scholarship to play but when I got there I got kicked off, which led me to taking music seriously under my college radio name, “Million$$Maddy.”
Now you’re a native of Gary, Indiana – hometown of the legendary The Jackson’s dynasty – correct? So growing up in ‘The Magic City,’ who all did / do you consider to be your strongest musical influences?
Yes, as I like to call the best city in the world lbs! My first inspiration was my mom. Behind her is (the) best of all time Beyoncé! Being from Gary, you’d always hear about the Jackson family…but I didn’t get truly hip on Michael until he passed; I was about 10. From there, me and my brother would dance in front of the TV to all of his music, and he’d even go dance in front of his house. That’s where my love for what he did began to develop. I would say to myself, “make me like MIKE,” and not Michael Jordan! As my love for music has grown, Janet has actually become the one that I truly study. She’s just as incredible.
In having said that, how do you classify your overall sound and / or style?
I would classify my sound/ style as unorthodox. I can give you soul, funk, pop, rap, country or gospel if I wanted too! Lol! I just make what I feel. It’s actually quite hard for me to put it in words, so I’ll leave that up to the people!
Switching gears here…
To date, what has been your greatest career moment(s), at least thus far anyway?
I would say my greatest moment has been just getting the opportunity to pursue music full time. After losing basketball, I was so lost. So for me, music has been my saving grace. Behind that, I would say seeing myself on the billboard downtown L.A. was crazyyyyy! That moment made it real for me. Like I’m really an artist…
What’s an average day like for you?
An average day for me if I’m being honest constantly changes. I’m still getting accustomed to my new job, so right now life is all over (the) place…but in a couple months I know that’ll change.
Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans…
I try my best to interact with everyone because without them none of this would be possible…but I’d say the biggest platforms I use to talk to them are on Instagram and on my Discord: Lover Girls. So if you want to talk, join my Discordddd!
What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?
My favorite part about this line of work is creating music, getting to meet likeminded creatives and leveling up in any way I can. My least favorite part would be the content! Lol! I’m pretty private and also a photographer, so I’m used to being behind the camera. It’s been a pretty tough transition, but with the help of my team I’d like to I’m getting better. Hopefully in a few years, music will be king again…but regardless, I’m here for the ride.
What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
I would say dream it, plan it, then go get it! Writing music isn’t the only way to utilize your pen…write your goals, thoughts and plans down as well. You’d be surprised how much comes true when you write it down.
Lastly, what’s next for Amari’Noelle?
To develop into a superstar! I’m really just getting started. I still have yet to create my best art, but I know when that comes so will the charting records, Grammy’s and a whole lot of other things I need to retire! Lol!
