Leroy Biggs: Big(gs) Country

Let’s hop right into this latest single / video, “HOWDY HOWDY” — Tell me about this particular track; how did it come to fruition?

Me and the fellaz have been working on music the couple of months leading to connecting with MNRK. They wanted a straight up Rap record with Country vibe. “Howdy Howdy” is what we came up with.

Of course “HOWDY HOWDY” comes courtesy of your still forthcoming next solo project — What all can you reveal and / or divulge about upcoming said body of work?

I feel completely confident that it’s my best body of work to date. I got out of my comfort-zone, and ended up with a new Leroy sound. Completely different from anything I’ve made prior!

“HOWDY HOWDY” is a STREET FLAVOR RECORDS / MNRK release — What particular string of events actually led up to this inking?

We met by chance through a mutual friend in the music biz.

As a lyricist, when you sit down to pen your rhymes where do you draw your inspiration from?

Just from my life in general being a country white boy, heavily influenced by Hip Hop.

Reflecting, tell me your whole inception into music — When did you first become interested in it? And, how did it all begin for Leroy Biggs?

Everybody in my high school was into Rap music. A lot of the older kids were aspiring  rappers. I sold drugs to all those kids. Somewhere along the way they introduced me to making Rap music; I never looked back

Where exactly do you hail from? And growing up there, who all did / do you consider to be your strongest musical influences?

I grew up on Pond Creek Road in Ashland City, Tennessee. My buddy, Ryan Upchurch, blew up, and I was along for the ride with him a bit. Aside from Jelly Roll, there was a slew of Country and Bluegrass artists that really influenced me.

In having said that, how do you classify your overall sound and / or style?

I’m a country mother-fucker that raps!

Switching gears here…

What do you feel will be the key to your longevity?

My personality, my quick wit, humor and my love for my neighbors.

What do you want people to get from your music?

Be yourself…if I can do it, anyone can.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip Hop?

Not at all! Hip Hop has always been a reflection of something. Today Hip Hop doesn’t reflect any more than bullshit and loose morals. Back in the day, you rapped to make enough money to get off the street…now they rap to ACT like they’re on the street!

Do you have any other outside / additional aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?

I think I’m one of the funniest people you’ll ever meet.  I would love to do stand-up comedy. I also think it would be pretty fucking funny if I were the Governor of Tennessee!

To date, what has been your greatest career moment(s), at least thus far anyway?

Aligning with Street Flavor Records [Sonny Paradise / Lorenzo Cole], and getting acceptance from my role models.

What’s an average day like for you?

I smoke a lot of pot, I write a lot of music and I push a lot of buttons…especially Sonny’s!

Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans…

The fans I’ve made all look like they could be related to me. In today’s world, you never know what anyone is going through. If I’m gonna be bubbly and goofy anyways, I may as well interact this way with my fans, or what I call my extended family. I wanna shake your hand, I wanna kiss your baby, I wanna pet your dog. That’s most important to me.

What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?

Favorite part would be the fan interaction. Worse part, having to explain myself. I hate feeling like I have a chip on my shoulder. With things these days, I feel like I’ve had to prove I’m not the devil.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

Just Do It! Just do it. Don’t worry what other people think. You ain’t in high school anymore.

Lastly, what’s next for Leroy Biggs?

If Elon Musk gets his shit together, I’ll be on the moon!

Is there anything I left out, or just plain forgot to mention?

Nothing left out.

Any “closing” thought(s) for our readers?

Closing thoughts: this interview has been a cool experience, and makes me feel like we’re doing something right.
