0Reset and Reboot: Regaining Mindfulness by Esmeralda Baez
Social media is a vast expanse where one might encounter just about anything and anyone…for me, more often than not, my encounters on any of the various platforms I’m required to engage on as a journalist are fleeting. Meaning someone says hi or gives a comment on something I may have shared or written and I respond…more often than not, they want coverage and I’m a target…that’s the cycle. But from the very beginning, my engagement with Esmeralda Baez, the author of Reset & Reboot: Regaining Mindfulness, took a different path, yes she engaged, and yes she wanted coverage on something but her methodology was from the old school…we had a conversation, she asked what I liked to write about and then she tailored her pitches with content based on my responses. It was very cool and refreshing; more than that, it was professional in a day in age and industry when that is less and less the case. All of that is the setup to say that my perception of Esmeralda was that she was thoughtful and aware in a manner I find generally lacking in the hustle and rush of this industry…there was something different…someTHING had made her reflect differently on the business and life in general which makes her a special person on many levels. Her experiences and reflections shared in her book gave me a lot of answers…
I initially bought the book to support someone I’d professionally come to respect, but the unexpected blessing from the purchase was that she was talking to ME directly, amongst the millions of others this book was aimed to connect with. Like Esmarelda, I’d had a near-death experience, actually multiple during my time in the military, and came home from my last deployment a complete wreck, mentally and physically. It took about two years for them to put me back together physically; mentally…well, I’m a work in progress!
As I turned the opening pages of Reset & Reboot, I was drawn to a quote “If your mind and emotions are in the dark, everything else malfunctions.” In my case, my military past has over the years had my mind and emotions all over the place, I’ve hidden behind journalism as a way to push away all those invading memories from moments that changed my view of the world and life…the value of life specifically, both mine and others. Reset and Reboot gave me some tools to acknowledge my past and let it be just that…the past…man it was better than ANY therapy session for combat vets I’ve ever participated in I swear. Ok, I might be going too deep but I think you get the idea that this is a powerful 85 pages put together by a young lioness who reached inside of herself to share her experiences, observations, and activations which changed her day-to-day and put her on the successful path she’s on today. Esmeralda straightened out the maze and is recognized as one of the foremost personalities in the media space on multiple levels.
Reset & Reboot: Regaining Mindfulness is available on Amazon and other retailers and gets a wholehearted recommendation from me as one of the most impactful books I’ve read this year.
