Happenings: Latin X International Film Festival & Dia De Muertos Celebration

The City of Hapeville presents the third installment of its Latinx International Film Festival at the Historic Academy Theater on October 29 and 30, 2022. This year’s films will be curated by Mexican-born, Atlanta-based, and Daytime Emmy award-winning filmmaker Jesús Andrés Lugo Gómez.
Gómez shared that his goal is for each film to respond to the theme of the Day of the Dead in a way that demonstrates the connections shared across various countries and cultural traditions. Previous years’ selections have included up to 24 short independent films from directors across Latin America, including Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Venezuela. The festival will accompany Hapeville’s notable Día de Muertos celebration, including gallery exhibitions and public art celebrating Hispanic traditions and culture. Attendees can RSVP for the screening via hapevilledayofthedead.org.
Tickets are also available the day(s) of the event at the Academy Theatre box office, located at 599 N. Central Avenue in Hapeville, GA. This project is made possible thanks to the sponsorship of the City of Hapeville, Fulton County Arts and Culture, the Georgia Council for the Arts, and the Academy Theatre.
