Live Session with rising artist NAIIM whose sound is called “…a unique amalgamation of rap, pop, R&B, and funk follows no formula and is an extension of himself.” We talked about his recent release “Dusty Winds” and its unique sound, his journey, his why for making music, and much more.
NAIIM is one of those artists that once you hear his music, you keep digging deeper and deeper. His artistry is a bit beyond music as he actually paints word pictures for you on a blank canvas and each time you experience what he’s putting down on the mic it’s a new adventure…I’d call them museum pieces if it were on a literal canvas!
NAIIM just dropped a perfect example of what I’m talking about with his new single Dusty Winds which is out now on all DSPs. The opening sets you up for one thing and then suddenly, but smoothly, the ride begins…
About Dusty Winds
Dusty Winds is a statement piece that embodies the feeling of invincibility. In its purest form it’s about winning with the team and that no distractions could sidetrack NAIIM from that. This is displayed throughout the song in many of the lyrics, for instance: “Bring the mandem to the mountains, gotta take em to the fountain so many dubs that I swear that we drowning” or “Working the double for triple I’m counting my commas it’s all about business for me” or “came with the posse, skate around yall on hockey, how the fuck they gon stop me. Came on the offense, running my plays they knocking. Really? How the fu*k they gon stop me?”
This Live Session was a great conversation with an artist who is quite self-aware and I had fun having him describe NAIIM the artist from the inside looking out. We also got into the defining moment that made him take the leap into music as a career and what’s been the most satisfying for him thus far about that decision…Tune in!
