Josh Remi Releases C8

The clash of two worlds is displayed in Josh Remi’s single, C8. Utilizing his love for Corvettes, Josh Remi has employed metaphor and imagery to create a dazzling RnB track that gets the blood pumping, like the engine of the C8. Accompanied by a highly visual, professional, and captivating music video, C8 tells the narrative of joyriding through the streets in a “borrowed” Corvette C8 alongside his bombshell cohort. The lyrics would sound to the unobservant as a typical love song, speaking lines of devotion, the emotions elicited in the subject, and the overall tension resulting from being around them. Of course, Josh Remi is referring to the car in this instance. And you know, it works.

The theme for the accompanying video is Josh seeing keys left in a beautiful Corvette C8, to which our subject grabs his love interest and proceeds to take the car for a liberated drive down the streets of what I assume is his native Jacksonville, Fla. Being pursued by the police, after being falsely lured into a street race, our subjects escape on foot from the law. Change perspective, and the cop falls in love with the abandoned Corvette. It is crucial to establish this connection, as it speaks to the metaphors present throughout the lyrics. The power this car has on the soul is much like the love of a beautiful woman; the same hormonal response brings the same foolish execution of ideas, like stealing a car. The narrative is filled with tension as this story comes to fruition almost two minutes into the video. Josh Remi cleverly sets the scene and delivers the appropriate amount of tension before exploding into his lyrics.

The beat of this track is well executed. The main groove drives the melody forward with ease, allowing Josh Remi to rap just behind the downbeat giving this track a slightly syncopated feel. The heavy effects on his vocals distract from a solid performance, perhaps too much auto-tune. Still, the execution is nonetheless solid and hits all the essential requirements for an R&B hit with Hip-Hop vocals. As this is the first single from his debut album, the level of professionalism and maturity on display hints at a promising career in this field, with plenty of material still to come. As it is evident that Josh Remi can tell a story and incorporate many elements to capture the attention of his audiences, this is an excellent first offering that industry investors should consider. C8 would be a perfect addition to any Urban, Dance, RnB, and Hip-Hop commercial radio format. With some slight editing to a more radio-friendly format, C8 would be an instant success for new audiences. My first thought was C8 needed the visual element to execute the metaphor, yet with repeated listens, the hook and the melody were so infectious the song stands very well on its own, the visuals becoming an added treat.
