Beyond The Music: How Ariel Houston is Changing the Music Scene

Born in Lexington, Kentucky, and raised in NYC, Ariel Houston is a rising singer consistently making waves throughout the music world. Houston is also an active activist, mental health clinician, social media influencer, and entrepreneur.

Houston’s love for music first started when she was just five years old. She was standing in front of a TV watching a VHS tape of Whitney Houston singing “The Greatest Love All.” She watched the performance in awe and soon found herself grabbing a hairbrush, singing, and dancing her heart out in her living room.

Ariel Houston has a new single set to release on December 14th titled “Loose U” featuring Sunny Jorge. The track “Loose U” expresses the value of hardworking individuals who aren’t around all the time. However, they remain the same towards their significant other and reiterate the importance of loyalty and love towards one another no matter the distance, trials in error, or crossroads that may occur along the way.

When Ariel Houston was only nine years old, she was asked to sing the national anthem at a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden, which became a recurring role three times a season, lasting well into her teens. She also booked her first off-Broadway musical that ran for a year. She received great media and Playbill reviews and became a SAG member shortly after. After her MSG performance David McPherson, an A&R at Jive Records approached Houston’s mother proposing to work with her. McPherson wanted to put her through artist development since she was so young. He would later sign her to a production deal at Planet Sound Studio in lower Manhattan, where she would later record and work alongside Jives Record’s newly signed boy group, Imagin. Her manager was in negotiation with mega-producer Rodney Jerkins, who wanted to sign her singing group; however, she declined his offer to work on her solo career with Michael Houston, Whitney Houston’s brother and her now husband.

Though Houston was a successful child entertainer being able to support her family financially and working alongside Hollywood elites, she still struggled and has even been homeless. “I remember, at 10 years old, brushing my teeth in a Burger king bathroom on 42nd street before performing in a packed arena at MSG, and me and my family and not knowing where we were going to sleep when we left MSG that night. My mother, brother, sister, and I, splitting a Burger 4 ways for dinner.”

By the time Ariel was 15 years old, she had over 20 national commercials under her belt, a successful modeling career as a Ford model, frequently recording with Whitney Houston at her studio in New Jersey, off-Broadway musicals, and television interviews with Fox and CNN.

When she was 16, things worsened, and her life spiraled out of control. She lost her focus and desire for music and business. However, through the grace of God, she eventually had two sons, and they ultimately saved her life. She became a mental health clinician and is finishing her second MA degree at the University of Kentucky. She established the Houston Foundation for Hope (HFH) nonprofit serving individuals with severe mental illness and substance addiction.

Ariel Houston’s musical inspirations stem from Whitney Houston, Faith Evans, Karen Clark, Tina Turner, and Deborah Cox. Ariel Houston has collaborated with high-level artists such as Kurupt, Bone Crusher, and Mysonne. She has also worked extensively with Emmy Award-winning producer Dwight “Skrapp” Reynolds. Her musical theater collaborations include Tia and Tamera Mowry, and Ray J. Other achievements include interviews on Fox, CNN, Impeccable Magazine, and a radio interview with DJ Tremayne. Houston hopes to collaborate with prominent artists such as DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Lizzo, and her son, up-and-coming rapper Jordan Houston.
