Three of the Most Amazing Things to Happen on Live TV Shows

The great thing about live TV is its unpredictability. You never know what’s going to happen next. You can’t edit what’s displayed on the screen. You can’t hit the rewind button. The viewer can live in the moment with the people on their television screen, and there’s something special about that.

As a consequence, it probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that many shocking, surprising, and amazing things have happened on live TV shows over the years. From reality television scandals to big wins on these game shows that are popular on TV, we’ve seen it all!

With that being said, in this blog post, we’re going to delve a bit deeper and take a look at three of the most incredible things to happen on live TV shows.

1. Man landing on the Moon

There really is only one place to begin when it comes to incredible live TV moments, and this is with that unbelievable moment that saw man walking on the Moon for the very first time! Back on the 20th of July in 1969, over 600 million people around the world watched a live TV feed as astronaut Neil Armstrong uttered the phrase that’s now etched in history;

“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Of course, we all log onto our computers and watch rocket launches on a regular basis nowadays, although we don’t see many humans on the Moon at the moment. However, when you consider the time period, it makes the footage from 1969 even more impressive. Inventions like the airplane and the automobile hadn’t even been around for 100 years, yet we managed to send people to the Moon, and millions all around the world watched it.

2. Kanye West interrupts Taylor Swift’s acceptance award speech

The MTV Video Music Awards are shown live on MTV. Things tend to pretty much go to the script; live music with awards and the standard ‘thank you’ speeches in between. However, in 2009, when Taylor Swift won the award for Best Female Video, Kanye West had other plans.

He interrupted Taylor Swift’s speech to tell everyone that Beyonce should have won. Classy as ever, Beyonce made sure that Taylor got her moment, but no one will forget this iconic award show moment.

3. The rescue of Baby Jessica

Last but not least, we have to end with a heartwarming story. Back on the 14th of October, in 1987, the world watched as rescuers desperately tried to save an 18-month-old baby who had fallen into a well in her aunt’s backyard.

Jessica McClure, a young Texan girl, became affectionately known as Baby Jessica to the rest of the world who watched on as the 56-hour rescue mission took place.

Local oil drillers and firefighters drilled a 22-foot-deep shaft, enabling paramedic Robert O’Donnell to get underground and rescue the little toddler from the worrying position she was in!

While they were drilling, they could hear the little girl singing Winnie the Pooh.

Incredibly, Baby Jessica was as well as she could be from such a traumatic and dangerous experience.

The event was later turned into a television film called Everybody’s Baby: The Rescue of Jessica McClure

The only question that remains.. what’s going to happen next?

So there you have it: some of the most amazing and surprising moments that have happened on live television over the years. The good news is that we’re sure there are many more incredible moments to come. After all, that’s the beauty of live television. It’s unpredictable, and you never know what’s around the corner.
