In the heart of storytelling, there are films that entertain, and then there are films that transcend the screen, sparking conversations and driving change. “B1: The Movie – The Code of Blackness”, a film by accomplished filmmaker and author Ric Mathis, belongs to the latter category. With a steadfast focus on addressing the pressing challenges faced by Black people everywhere, this documentary emerges as a beacon of hope, poised to ignite dialogue and provoke meaningful actions.

Friday, August 11th, etched a momentous and powerful occasion at The Black Dot Cultural Center and Coffee Bar in Lithonia, GA.  Local leaders, cast members, and devoted community advocates gathered for an exclusive sneak preview event of the highly anticipated documentary, B1: The Code of Blackness.

After a long-standing applause, the venue was abuzz with discussions, networking, praise, and a palpable sense of unity – the kind that emerges when shared goals converge. Prominent local figures including Baba Yoga Bey, Poet Tianti, and Her Excellency Amb. Shanta Lana Hereford lent their presence and engaged in conversation about the film’s powerful narrative.

The experience was elevated by a captivating live performance by the incredibly talented Don Prynce. His strong stage presence, pulsating with positive lyrics, resonated deeply with attendees, harmonizing perfectly with the film’s themes and accentuating the message of empowerment and change.

At its core, “B1: The Movie” boldly addresses the struggles experienced by Black people. Through bold interviews with great minds such as Boyce Watkins, Dr. Claude Anderson, Rizza Islam, Queen Afua, and many more, the film embarks on a journey that unveils not only the challenges but also the resilience and untapped potential that reside within. As the echoes of the sneak preview linger, all eyes are fixed on the grand premiere, slated for this Saturday, August 19th at 8 pm at the renowned New Black WallStreet Market in Stonecrest, GA. The excitement is tangible, as our community eagerly prepares to immerse itself in this cinematic experience. The Thursday, August 17th kickoff at 2 pm sharp, featuring a session led by the influential Rizza Islam, marks the beginning of a captivating weekend filled with thought-provoking discussions, enlightening moments, and empowerment sessions. The pinnacle arrives on Sunday with a special appearance by the revered Les Brown.
