bbymutha Announces New LP ‘Sleep Paralysis’ Dropping April 19, Alongside Tour Dates

bbymutha has carved out a lane for herself within the Southern Hip-Hop scene through a string of releases displaying her taste for distorted production and expressive, candid lyricism, including tracks like “Sleeping With the Enemy” (9M+ Streams) and “Rules” (6M+ Streams). Rather than adhering to trends, bbymutha instead uses a combination of unreserved flows and an animated drawl to deliver raps that resonate with fans and top-level publications like The FADERCRACK and even Metal Magazine. The release of her new single “go!” follows the recently-released “gun kontrol” in ushering in bbymutha‘s new era that will lead to the forthcoming release of sleep paralysis on 4/19 – a project that finds inspiration in addressing past personal struggles head-on. Using the twinkling synths and steady clapping pattern of the production behind her to candidly vent about her needs in a relationship, bbymutha uses go!” to continue leaning into her unadulterated self-expression. bbymutha also looks forward to kicking off her Sleep Paralysis Tour on 4/17, set to perform in major cities like NYC, Toronto, LA and more. Please find more info below and lmk, thanks!

Since releasing her first official song “Slut” as Cindyy Kushh in 2011, bbymutha has put reclaiming her own identity at the nexus of both her music and life. Flipping the script has been the Tennessee rapper’s greatest weapon, from the moment she switched her stage name to something a lover’s girlfriend had once thrown at her as an insult. bbymutha’s breakout 2016 EP Glow Kit introduced her clear-eyed mantras on sex, love, and bag-getting to a wider audience through the runaway hit “Rules” (6M+ Streams). Three EPs later, bbymutha released her debut album Muthaland in 2020 – its forthcoming follow-up sleep paralysis finds bbymutha reclaiming her rap crown the same way she did years ago, trading steady Southern beats for UK garage production she fell for during a transformative tour across the pond. Rapping over windswept and industrial beats from nine producers including FoiseyBon Music Vision, and Kildersleep paralysis transforms a period of creative stagnation into a new lens through which to view her past. The title itself stems from a syndrome bbymutha says she herself struggles with, but also appreciates as a medium for grappling with her younger selves.
Her first project with no features, sleep paralysis will find bbymutha weathering the sophomore slump with a new lease on the same singular persona: a preternaturally gifted stylist who prefers to build her instrumentals from the ground up, a curious tastemaker who refuses to languish in the confines of her comfort zone, a mother of four and R.L. Stine devotee and trauma survivor who never lets one facet of her identity determine her art.
