Hollywood’s Biggest Gamblers

Revealed on this page are some of the most famous Hollywood faces who are known to enjoy the occasional flutter here and there: Hollywood’s Biggest Gamblers.

We’ve all heard of the term ‘method acting’. It seems to be ripe around Hollywood for actors who take their craft seriously.

Perhaps that’s why so many of the biggest casino movies are so realistic. Whether it’s Martin Scorsese’s Casino or Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Eleven, it’s almost as if the actors are gamblers themselves, with tons of experience at poker tables or spinning roulette wheels.

Fishy…

Although, actually, it’s not fishy at all. Because so many actors in Hollywood are indeed gamblers! When it comes to acting in gambling roles, there seems to be no method acting required, with plenty of iconic movie stars – including sports stars, singers, musicians, and entertainers – known to frequent casinos, play slots, and try their hand at all the most famous casino games.

Now casino culture has changed over the decades. While the pomp and glamour of the 40s to the 70s was notable – the highest profile movie stars frequenting tables in their best dress – the digitisation of the industry has made celebrity appearances less common. Online casinos have made it convenient to play games from a sofa, not just a Las Vegas table. Both the games at land-based casinos and the online games often use real money, so there isn’t exactly a difference in prestige. However, if you were to rock up to an online poker table, you may still be able to recognise a celebrity from their pseudonymous name, as opposed to their face and demeanour.

But it still happens. Celebrities hit the tables in Monaco, Macau, Las Vegas… but who?

Celebrities Who Love Casinos

Okay, you might be saying. But ‘Hollywood celebrities’ is pretty vague. Who exactly are Hollywood’s biggest gamblers?

We’re glad you asked, because we can tell you exactly which Hollywood celebrities enjoy gambling. Some of the biggest include:

  • Michael Jordan
  • Ben Affleck
  • Charlie Sheen
  • Tobey Maguire
  • Matt Damon

And if these celebrities aren’t enough, other well-known figures who enjoy the occasional flutter – either online or in-person at some of Las Vegas’ most well-known casinos – are Lady Gaga, Jennifer Annison, Jose Mourinho, Conor McGregor, Drake, and Jennifer Tilly.

Heck, even Harry Styles has been seen gambling while on tour in Perth. You thought the song Watermelon Sugar was really about watermelons? Wrong, it was about his winning line! Clearly, they just do it with watermelons rather than cherries in Australia.

One of the best tellings of celebrity gambling exploits is Molly’s Game, a 2017 thriller. It tells the story of Molly Bloom (adapted from her memoir), about her underground poker ring that became a hit in Hollywood. Tobey Maguire, The Olsen Twins (yes, those ones), Ben Affleck, Alex Rodriguez and even Leonardo DiCaprio all took part.

However, as with most risky ventures, this eventually crumbled. As both the Italian and Russian mafias become involved, and one of her players who is running a large-scale Ponzi scheme is caught up in the chaos.

Do celebrities actually play online?

Naturally, many people want to visit the casinos that celebrities deemed fit for them, but this is kind of hard to do if you’re not jetting off to Las Vegas – or Perth, for that matter. The good thing is that, in 2024, you don’t have to jet off anywhere. As we mentioned before, plenty of celebrities endorse and play online casinos, with most of them radiating a similar sense of luxury and opulence that you could expect in the best land-based establishments.

Online casinos fill the niche for those who can’t go to the all-out extravagance of Monte Carlo. For us regular people (in other words, non-celebrities) we can sign up to these sites for free in under a minute, with many online casinos coming with a useful free-play demo mode.  For those unaware, free-play demo mode means you can ‘try before you buy’ without risking any of your own money. Registered members can practise playing certain games before risking their hard-earned money in the real money mode. As it’s unlikely that you’re Elon Musk or Bill Gates, a free game may be of use to you.

Final note

So there we have it. A run down of all of Hollywood’s biggest gamblers, complete with some information on how you can get in on the action. Just remember before you jump on board, you’re not Ben Affleck or Harry Styles. In other words, you’re not a celebrity who can pay for a professional financial advisor, or even a psychic to make the right decisions for you. Always ensure to keep well within your budget and gamble responsibly, not like you’re in the middle of a scene from Scorcese’s Casino!
