Seun Kuti North American Tour Includes Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival with The Soul Rebels

Afrobeat Icon Seun Kuti to Perform at Hollywood Bowl
Seun Kuti, the renowned Afrobeat artist and member of the legendary Kuti family, will bring his North American tour to the Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival on my birthday June 16. Kuti, accompanied by his band Egypt80, will perform alongside The Soul Rebels, marking one of the stops on his tour that runs through July 23. The tour also includes special appearances supporting the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Seun Kuti’s Busy Creative Year
Since his extensive international tour in 2022, Seun Kuti has been prolific in his creative endeavors. He released the EP “Live at Clout Studios,” recorded at Cool FM 96.9 in Lagos, and followed up with “African Dreams,” an EP featuring hip-hop renditions of Afrobeat tracks from his Grammy-nominated album “Black Times,” in collaboration with The Roots co-founder Black Thought. The lead single, “Kuku Kee Me (Remix),” was featured on the FIFA 23 soundtrack with an animated music video.
Last year, Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 were featured on Janelle Monáe’s single “Float” from her album “The Age of Pleasure.” Additionally, Kuti’s collaboration with Black Thought, “Bad Man Lighter (Remix),” saw a new version, “Bad Man Lighter 2.0,” featuring rapper and activist Vic Mensa. On June 3, Kuti announced his forthcoming album, set to release on October 4, with executive production by Lenny Kravitz.
Continuing the Kuti Legacy
Seun Kuti, the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, has upheld the family tradition of blending music with activism. He began performing with Egypt 80 at a young age and took over leadership of the band after his father’s death in 1997. Seun’s performances are known for their deep connection to Afrobeat’s roots and African cultural traditions.
In addition to his musical career, Seun is an active political figure, serving as the Pro-Tem Chairman of the Movement of the People, the political party founded by his father. He is also a prominent voice in Nigeria, known for his weekly radio show, iconic performances at The New Afrika Shrine, and influential social media presence.
