How New Artists Break into the Music Scene

New artists are always trying to make their mark on the market. Artists you’ve never heard of before often show up in the charts at number one after releasing a hit single. You may also find popular artists collaborate with unheard-of singers, which helps to give them a gateway into the market. With so many new artists resurfacing all the time, it’s interesting to dive into the world of music so that you can understand the scene and how artists gain traction within a crowded market.

Music Covers

One way that artists get new sales is by doing music covers. This allows artists to repurpose older songs while ensuring that it’s going to resonate well with audiences. One example of this would be Luke Combs and his cover of Fast Car by Tracy Chapman. Johnny Cash also covered Hurt, originally done by Nine Inch Nails. The song became so popular that people thought that Cash did it originally. Either way, artists often cover other songs if they feel as though it gives them an “in” with their target audience.

Giving Away Albums for Free

Another thing that artists sometimes do in an attempt to break through is give away their albums for free. Radiohead did this with their album, In Rainbows. They had a tip jar for anyone who felt like donating a few bucks and they also gave away a digital copy of the album. A move like this helped to make the album a hot topic for news sites and around the world. It was one of the first major releases to be made free for everyone.

The music sector isn’t the only industry to adopt tactics like this. The casino and entertainment industry have been doing it for quite some time. It’s not uncommon to see sites offer free spins and no wagering promotions to try and get new customers through the door. Casinos often offer the chance to use your bonus on live casino games too, so fans can try out different elements, for free. This is a very good tactic for breaking through a crowded market and time has shown time and time again that it is the best way for new artists to stand out, something that new artists could learn from.

Partnering with Legendary Bands

Another way that people break through the music market is to collaborate and partner with legendary stars. Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus collaborated on Old Town Road together, and although this partnership seemed unlikely, it did lead to the song getting a billion streams on Spotify. This helped them to rocket their fame even more, and it also brought country music back into the limelight. Other unexpected collaborations include Linkin Park and Stormzy, and David Bowie and Bing Crosby. Although these are legends, it does go to show that a lot of hype can result from simply teaming up with other people, even out of your music genre. Things like this often help new artists to break through the scene, giving them a launchpad for success.
