Rising Star Amber Smoke: Not “Bashful” on Being Business Minded
In this #LiveSession, we weigh in with Amber Smoke, a Houston native steadily making a name for herself as a recording artist, actress, and wise businessperson. Known for her ability to seamlessly blend singing and rapping, Amber is an entertainment industry polymath excelling, as a rapper, singer, songwriter, and actress. As a result of our 1:1 conversation for The Hype Magazine, I’m adding another tag…Comedian!!! Unlike the title of her current single “Bashful” from her impending project “Reign“, Amber Smoke is a superstar experience, to say the least.

While we did get to the point for the interview, this was a sometimes uproarious, #LiveSession that got in-depth uniquely, and hilariously with the real Amber Smoke who is not only an entertainer but a serious entrepreneur with a successful plan. A key question I posed to Amber was “What do you think makes a forever song?” responding on multiple levels, she began, saying, “Ooh. Um, wow. That’s a great question. A lot of different factors. A, the song has to be catchy, right? And I think that’s the first thing. It has to resonate with you. If you would ask me this question, I would have said, it’s got to be done so well. But nowadays, it really doesn’t have to be done so well. It has to be catchy. It has to stay in people’s minds. A lot of times, either a dance move or a phrase or something that resonates and kind of transforms pop culture…”
On her business model, I asked, “What is your approach to entrepreneurship and merchandising?” Amber shared, in part, “…Every time you put out a new song, a single that we’re promoting, it comes with a new merch collection…”
Benchmarks in Her Musical Journey
Things took a definitive turn when Amber’s official video for her track “Money Orders” gained significant traction, receiving airplay on major radio stations. This success was followed by her pandemic-era single “Slow It Down,” which garnered attention from nearly 500,000 people across social media platforms, including multiple celebrities. In 2022, her single “Isn’t It Funny?” received widespread praise for its candid take on social issues, in its promotional video…that’s the short of it.
Making Her Onscreen Splash with Entrepreneurial Nuances
Amber has recently landed roles in three films featured on major platforms like BET, BET+, Tubi, and Paramount+. Her first role was as GG in Tubi’s “Cheating In The Next Room,” starring alongside Q. Parker, Drea Kelly, Titus Showers, Cheryl Hanes, and Geneva Lattimore. She then showcased her singing talent in “A Miracle Before Christmas,” featuring Letoya Luckett, Romeo Miller, Keith David, Demetrius Shipp, and Porsche Coleman. In the most recent film, she played “Mia” with Danileigh, Romeo Miller, Skyh Black, Tamar Braxton, and Elise Neal.
Business Minded: Amber Smoke has placed at least one original song in each movie she has filmed.
Polymath Stuff
A self-contained artist, Amber has mastered a variety of skills including editing, choreography, writing, website development, and styling, all of which she taught herself. Additionally, she is a trained dancer in Hip Hop, contemporary, ballet, modern, and jazz.
Recent Work and Future Projects
Amber’s latest promotional single “Bashful” is accompanied by three captivating visualizers. This release will be followed by her next single, “Taste It.” Funny Alert! In our conversation, when Amber introduced “Taste It”, things went WWWAAAYYY WEST, and she set it off all by herself.
A media darling, Amber was recently featured in The City Magazine alongside Yung Joc. Amber also performed during the BET Awards weekend and made appearances at spotlight events alongside peers.
Upcoming EP: Reign
Amber is gearing up for the release of her highly anticipated EP, “Reign,” set to drop in late 2024.
