Santa Fe Premiere of “In My Father’s House” Set to Open in October

Jacalyn Kane’s latest theatrical production, “In My Father’s House,” will make its grand premiere at Teatro Paraguas in Santa Fe, New Mexico, from October 3-20, 2024. Featuring an ensemble cast of Svea Kennedy, Levi Lobo, Brent Black, Angela Bond, Macarena Munoz, and Pierce Anaya, the play promises a thought-provoking exploration of social issues through the lens of an unlikely love story.

A Story of Love and Social Conflict

Set against the backdrop of Los Angeles in 1992, “In My Father’s House” tells the story of Alana, a Jewish graduate student, and Angel, a Hispanic ex-gang member. Their relationship navigates family disapproval, cultural clashes, and societal issues such as gang violence, racism, and police brutality. The play serves as a reflection on the turbulent social climate of the time, with a message about the power dynamics between the privileged and marginalized in America.

Kane’s play offers an immersive experience with its blend of music, rich storytelling, and metaphysical elements, creating a narrative that resonates both visually and aurally. Inspired by the belief that “the past is never past,” “In My Father’s House” tackles issues that remain relevant today.
