Welcome to the Mind of S7GMA

“Welcome” is the third track Texas-based artist S7GMA (pronounced “sigma”) has released this year, part of a 7-track EP titled Mind of Me. All three singles from the collection share a piano-centric, conscious hip-hop vibe. Their inspiration? Months of deep introspection, during which S7GMA processed several personal losses, including the deaths of his manager, a close friend’s child, and his father.

The resulting work showcases an artist who knows who he is—and what he wants to say. That confidence stems from years of hard work and consistency, which are now paying off.

Daniel Gonzalez began releasing music as S7GMA in 2014. Since then, he has produced nearly 40 tracks and grown a substantial fan base, currently approaching 100,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. He has recently received radio play in Atlanta, and Argentina and is planning a Latin America tour in 2025.

Mind of Me will be released on Nov. 12. It features seven tracks, and S7GMA plans to produce a limited number of physical copies—including CDs and vinyl records—as giveaways for dedicated fans.

The EP’s opening track is “Welcome.” In S7GMA’s words, it is “a thorough introduction into the mind of S7GMA, into the mind of me—not only as an artist but as Daniel as well. Welcome to my new chapter, welcome to my lessons learned, welcome to my trials and tribulations.”

The track begins with a piano playing delicate arpeggios over a four-chord progression, accompanied by the sound of a vinyl record crackling in the background. A simple “boom-bap” kick-snare drum beat kicks in, then briefly drops out for some 1980s-style synth sounds, reminiscent of Stranger Things, while S7GMA asks:

Do I really got a chance?

Do I really think that I can make it?

Abso-fucking-lutely, watch my feet lift off the pavement.

Then the chorus drops, with the synth fully replacing the piano, rhythms in lockstep with the drums, as he raps, “Welcome to the mind of S7GMA / Welcome to the mind of me.”

The track reflects S7GMA’s personal journey and struggles, from the aforementioned losses to his childhood on the tough streets of North Philadelphia, where he lived before moving to Texas in junior high school. More than just a personal diary, however, this track serves as motivation for anyone who listens—anyone needing a reminder to keep going. As the famous fictional Philadelphian Rocky Balboa once put it, “It ain’t about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.”

Heel-toe then bend your knees, hit the ground running

It don’t matter where you’re going, just don’t be running from something

We all got pain, but what you doing about it?

Easy to complain, boo-hoo about it”

True to S7GMA’s style, the song builds into a final cinematic chorus before the synths and drums drop out. In the end, the listener returns to where the track started, with the solo piano and vinyl cracks and pops reminiscent of summer rain outside your window. But here, the window allows us to peer into the mind of S7GMA, an artist inviting you to join him in moving forward, in self-belief, in running toward your goals without succumbing to self-doubt.

That window could also be a portal for listeners to discover their own awakenings. “If you want to get back to yourself, I am the portal. Let my music be the door for that.”

S7GMA will be performing in Texas on Oct. 13. Connect with S7GMA on all platforms to stay in the loop for important news and updates.
