0Meet Tayo Aina: The African Discovering the World
Africa’s most prominent travel content creator, Tayo Aina, is set to release three highly anticipated documentaries commemorating Black History Month. This October, the award-winning YouTuber showcases navigating through life as an African traveller in three major cities: New York, Toronto, and London. These episodes coincide with Tayo’s remarkable achievement of surpassing 100 million all-time views on his YouTube channel, cementing his place as one of Africa’s leading storytellers.
This documentary series provides an intimate, in-depth exploration of the immigrant experience from Tayo Aina’s unique perspective as a traveler with a Nigerian passport:
Navigating New York: This film dives into Tayo’s journey through the fast-paced, culturally rich New York, the city that never sleeps, capturing stories of the African diaspora and offering a fresh look at how these communities have shaped New York’s identity and culture.
Travelling Through Toronto: In this piece, Tayo explores the vibrant and diverse neighborhoods of Toronto, Canada, and shares his experience and in-depth view of what you do not see in mainstream media.
London Layover: This documentary showcases Tayo’s exploration of the UK and he examines the side of Japa—a Nigerian term for migrating abroad— nobody shows you and how it shapes the experiences of young Africans seeking new opportunities in the UK.
These three documentaries are more than just travel films; they are from the unique lens of a previous Uber driver turned world tourist who now gets to explore different cultures. Each documentary is packed with stunning visuals, heartfelt interviews, and Tayo’s signature approach to storytelling.
Speaking on the documentaries, Tayo said, “I want people to also see the world through my lens. I believe the stories I tell help make humans understand each other better. It is about telling the stories of people who look like me.”
Tayo Aina’s three new documentaries, set to launch in October on YouTube, promise to offer a fresh perspective on navigating life in New York, Toronto, and the UK as a Black traveller. His films come at an opportune time, coinciding with Black History Month in the UK, a celebration that honours the contribution of Black communities in shaping British culture and history. As part of his documentary launch, Tayo will also embark on a press tour in October, making appearances in London to discuss his work and his goals and plans for his brand going forward.
