GoodGuyDavid1 Talks New Single “Baby”

David Vanison was no stranger to the mean streets and coping with drugs as a teen growing up in Prince George County, Maryland, but it wasn’t until after he had his own first-hand experience with violence that he had the revelation something needed to change. Now as the 27-year-old rapper, GoodGuyDavid1, he has left the life of a felon for a life of faith and is turning his hurt into his hustle in pursuit of a better life.

With thousands of Instagram followers and a growing Spotify discography built off of indie touring, this underdog is slowly crawling his way out of the trenches and into the limelight. He credits his fortitude to his belief in a higher power and praises his relationship with spirituality in guiding him toward his true self. In his heart of hearts, David is a dream chaser and a cycle breaker like many music makers before him, stating that he draws influence from industry juggernauts like Kendrick Lamar, DaBaby and Trippie Red. Instead of hiding from his history, David believes that his mistakes have been his greatest teachers and wants to use his past to inspire the belief in others that they too can change with a little more love, grace, and determination. David is now working to set a better example after finding the love of his life and realizing another big dream – his hopes of starting a family. GoodGuyDavid1 is releasing a new music video for his song, “Baby.”

The “Baby” music video is a testament to David’s work ethic both on and off-screen. Outside of filming, David also self-produced the music video to help bring his vision to life, while he can also be seen pumping iron while the camera is rolling. With the help of direction by Mikeal Imaging, the visuals for “Baby” serve to highlight David’s commitment to self-improvement for himself and his future family. The rapper working out in the gym is representative of the hard work he is doing mentally, physically, and spiritually in this season of his life to keep his woman and get the career of his dreams. Although many of the artist’s previous songs featured heavier subject matter, David is now claiming a new season of peace and abundance with the lighthearted lyrics in “Baby”. At its core, this song celebrates love and expresses gratitude for when one finally finds that special person. With its banging beat, unfiltered lyrics and inspirational visuals, “Baby” is the go-to music video to hype anyone up at the gym, get the adrenaline pumping on a scenic Sunday drive, or use as a rap battle inspiration at the block party with the homies.

Talk to us a little bit about your musical journey thus far—what inspired you to start making music?

My Journey thus Far Has Been Good But it’s About to Get Even Greater! Outstanding! God’s About to Show Out Even More! People Who Made Music Inspired Me to Make Music Like Kendrick Lamar, Trippie Redd, DaBaby!

Is “Baby” rooted in a personal memory or experience? Where did you draw inspiration from for this track?

No, I Got Inspiration from wanting to have a loyal spouse who would encourage me! You know, Real Mutual Love. Not love me for Money or how far I am in My Career or Material Things.

Can you talk about any challenges or breakthroughs you had while crafting the sound of “Baby”?

A Challenge I Had to Overcome Was The Writing Process of Creating the Song Baby!

It was writing out the story because my story-writing process consists of using Homophones, Synonyms, and Antonyms, and sometimes A Reversed Sentence of a Sentence I’ve Already Stated in the Song to tell My Whole Story! while staying on topic and doing My Best to Rhyme Words together.

Can you walk us through your creative process for producing the music video? How do you go from an idea to a final product?

That’s a Great Question!  I’ll think about the Topic of the Song, and sometimes while I’m writing the Song, I’ll Get Visions for a Music Video and write that down.  After I’m Finished Writing the Song, I’ll Sit Down, Set My Alarm Clock, And Meditate to Come up with the Visual Visions I Want to Produce for the Music Video.

Did you face any challenges self-producing the music video? How did you overcome these obstacles?

Setting Up the right time to Rent out and Use the Venue / Photoshoot Location and the Gym Venue. I picked the right time and place to meet at Both Locations On different Days. I Showed up on Time! And I made sure Everybody was paid to get what I needed to Get Done with intention

What do you hope listeners will feel or understand from the song and music video? What impact do you hope “Baby” and the “Baby” music video will have on your audience?

I Hope Listeners Will Feel and Understand That there’s Hope for them in their own lives, and that they should Take Action on seeking and loving a Partner Out there! I’m serious about My Career, and I want them to come see me perform live.

The Impact I Hope it Will Have is to Increase Expectancy For My In-Person Shows and Events!  And that the Impact of this Video Causes the listener to know there’s More Elevation, Another Side of Me and there’s More in Me coming from a Music Standpoint that’s Being Unleashed!  There’s More Music, Visual Arts, and Music Videos, there’s MoElevation in what they’ve seen so far!

How does your faith influence the messages in your music and guide you as an artist?

My Faith Influences Every Part of My Life!  It influences the messages In My Music by helping connect what I want to happen in Real life with the POWER of My Words!  I always say what I want to happen! I anchor myself in Faith in Winning and a Winning MindSet and that’s How My Faith Influences and Guides Me as an Artist. Because if something I’m doing is not rooted in Faith! Winning or Hope it’s Not Related to Me, it’s Not Anything I’m Going to Be Doing or associated with.

How does “Baby” reflect your growth as an artist, and where do you see your music headed next?

“Baby” Reflects My Growth as an Artist by Showing My Maturity Level and Showing I Got What It Takes to Cross into That Next Level. Selling Tickets, Going gold, Platinum, Diamond in Music Sales! Going On Tour!  Because it shows and it’s another testament that  I believe in Me.  And Everything that I’m Doing.
