New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell Champions Empowerment With City Proclamation For ‘His Love Is Amazing Movement’

In a powerful declaration of support for youth development, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has officially recognized the mission and impact of the “His Love is Amazing movement“, founded by Apostle Mardia Scott. This movement focuses on grassroots outreach, teaching empathy, and opening doors to opportunities that contribute to growth, prosperity, and leadership for young people in New Orleans and beyond.

Before I continue this editorial here’s a disclaimer: I’m not a subscriber to religious labels, and I don’t care in the slightest what name you ascribe to deity, but what this article will share, in part, was my observation of God getting his way…plain and simple…despite the desires of man and bueracracy to shortstop, befuddle, and impede a movement following a mandate to aid and assist youth and light to the imprisoned. I won’t use cliche, I’ll just tell you what I witnessed and experienced.

During an intimate event at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Mayor Cantrell applauded “His Love Is Amazing” for its work in transforming lives. She recognized that investing in the next generation is essential for the city’s progress and affirms her belief in providing young people with the tools to thrive.

“In New Orleans, our young people are the heartbeat of our future,” described Mayor Cantrell. “By fostering mentorship and opportunity, we equip them with the knowledge and confidence to overcome challenges. His Love is Amazing embodies this mission, strengthening the foundation for a brighter, more resilient future.”

Apostle Scott emphasized the movement’s purpose, stating, “This movement is about God’s Amazing Love and us declaring, motivating others to declare, and demonstrating to those a reason to declare!”

A Moment of Recognition and Celebration

Bill Whittle, Chairman of His Love Is Amazing, praised Mayor Cantrell for her powerful proclamation, stating, “This adds meaning to the mission of our organization. This is a great thing to announce for the youth, especially because I came from a teacher’s background.” The presentation was held in the heart of New Orleans in a private suite reserved by the organization, where young people from the community are invited to NBA games—exposing them to the spirit of Louisiana’s deep-rooted love for sportsmanship and community unity.

Apostle Mardia Scott, founder of His Love is Amazing, expressed his gratitude for the recognition: “I am truly honored to accept this proclamation and deeply thankful to Mayor Cantrell for her unwavering dedication to our city and our young people. As a believer, I recognize the importance of faith, leadership, and opportunity in shaping our future, and I commend the Mayor for her relentless efforts to keep New Orleans thriving.”

The proclamation further cemented the city’s commitment to this mission: “Now, therefore, let us officially recognize and celebrate Amazing Love Celebration Day as a time to share God’s love and make a lasting difference, especially for the youth in need. I, LaToya Cantrell, Mayor of the City of New Orleans, do hereby proclaim January 1st of every year as The Amazing Love Celebration Day.”

While this particular editorial shares a particular moment of triumph for the movement, a chapter completion if you will as the Mayor’s proclamation followed that of the Louisiana Governor, this writer was on hand for the full “His Love is Amazing Weekend,” which included a comedy show headlined by Actor / Comedian Omar Gooding and featured stand out comic Dana Boucher to launch the “Amazing Teacher of the Year” award nomination campaign and star studded “Zoom-a-Thon moderated by award winning actor Miguel Nunez and the amazing Omar Gooding…talk about boundless energy!!!

Part of the demonstration of “His Amazing Love” from my perspective as an observer was the awesome energy from everyone involved, from the celebrities and support staff alike. Long days and nights, conversations, and Lokiesque surprises were part of the experience, and I’ve nothing but total respect for the entire team of the movement as well as that of its supporters.

There’s even a good-natured competition between Miguel Nunez and Omar Gooding to gain support for the movement’s t-shirt line by stepping up as ambassadors with their own signature lines of the “His Love Is Amazing” tee which as a utility, provides wearers entree to an NBA game with proceeds going toward the movement’s mission

The Amazing Love Movement Operates on Three Core Pillars:

The movement publicly manifests these pillars by moving as part of the various communities, drawing strong support from the government and earning a place as official community partners of the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans and the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, greatly benefiting its constituents with a strong utility attached to its t-shirt line.
