Nur-D Drops a Funk-Fuelled Preview of Chunkadelic with “Purple in the Sky”

Nur-D is no stranger to bending genres and breaking expectations – and with his latest single “Purple in the Sky,” he’s serving up a vibrant taste of what’s to come from his upcoming album Chunkadelic, landing July 23.
Built on a dreamy blend of funk, Hip Hop, and retro video game textures, “Purple in the Sky” is as imaginative as it is infectious. The Minneapolis-based artist delivers sharp, playful bars over a beat that feels straight out of an 8-bit adventure, capturing the spirit of Donkey Kong Country while keeping one foot firmly in the world of modern rap.
The video is just as creative, turning the Midwest into a pixelated dreamscape that’s full of colour, nostalgia and tongue-in-cheek fun. It’s Nur-D doing what he does best – being fully himself, and inviting everyone to celebrate their own weird and wonderful.
With Chunkadelic promising features from The Lioness, El Par-0, Yare and more, and production from DJ Hayes, Remdolla and others, the album is shaping up to be one of Nur-D’s boldest projects yet – rooted in joy, individuality and a whole lot of funk.
“Purple in the Sky” is out now – and if it’s anything to go by, Chunkadelic will be one hell of a ride when it lands on July 23.
