Afropop Star IAmYungReef Making Northeast Philly Proud

Born in Monrovia, Liberia and raised in Northeast Philadelphia, Sheriff Menjoy known to the world as IAmYungReef is a rising artist with a story as dynamic as his sound. Bridging two worlds, Reef channels the rhythms of Afropop and the emotional pull of pop to craft music that feels both international and deeply personal.
His love for music took hold early. By twelve, he was writing original songs. By sixteen, he was recording, using music as both an escape and a tool for self-expression. Immersed in Philly’s rich music culture while staying grounded in his African heritage, Reef developed a unique sound that blends heartfelt lyrics, infectious melodies, and messages of love, struggle, empowerment, and resilience.
Over the years, his dedication has paid off. After three and a half years of development, he signed an independent management deal with Swaggertown Records a move that reflects both his growth and vision. He’s also garnered attention from notable media outlets like The Clout Magazine, GENZ Hip Hop, No Fortune, Prove Magazine, Medium, Rolling Hype, The Inscriber Magazine, 24-Hip Hop, Hiphopsince1987, and most recently, a feature on Hood Illustrated & Paperchaserdotcom, all made through Swaggertown Records.
His breakout track “Chocolate Beauty” highlighted his ability to celebrate love and confidence with irresistible energy, while recent singles like “Jealous” featuring YouMidasWell and 4evaMylo, and the upcoming “I Mean Business” with FIS BANGA, continue to showcase his versatility and evolution as an artist.
Despite the challenges of self-doubt, burnout, and the pressures of the industry IAmYungReef has remained grounded, building a loyal fanbase through authenticity and constant engagement. His social media presence offers fans a behind-the-scenes look at his creative process, exclusive updates, and a direct connection to his journey.
As he prepares to step into his next chapter, one thing is clear: IAmYungReef isn’t just making music he’s making a statement. And he’s just getting started.
