Slick Rick Drops VICTORY — A Groundbreaking Visual Album Executive Produced by Idris Elba

Hip-hop’s most revered storyteller and cultural icon, Slick Rick, unveils the film for VICTORY, premiering now on YouTube. Joining forces with acclaimed multi-hyphenate Idris Elba, VICTORY is a visionary visual album released via Elba’s label, 7Wallace, in collaboration with Mass Appeal.
VICTORY marks a triumphant return for The Ruler, celebrating 26 years since his last album. The project is a bold new chapter — a sonic and cinematic experience that pushes the limits of storytelling, legacy, and imagination. Executive produced by Slick Rick (The Poet) and Idris Elba (The Visionary), it features standout collaborations with Nas, Giggs, and a special appearance by Estelle.
At its core is a 30-minute immersive film directed by Meji Alabi (Beyoncé’s Black Is King), blending bold visuals with rich narratives. The aesthetic was crafted with legendary photographer Jonathan Mannion and brand storytellers Equator Studios, while Young Guru handled the mix. The album’s artwork and rollout were developed by UK creative agency PAQ alongside Rick’s Team Eye Patch.
Meji Alabi reflects: “Collaborating with Slick Rick The Ruler on his first album in 26 years was incredible. Creating visuals for such a monumental piece, alongside a master storyteller and icon, is an experience I’ll cherish forever.”
Slick Rick shares: “VICTORY is a tale of fiction for the mind. Part myth. Part magic. Grab your snacks, a cozy blanket, and pretend you’re by a fireplace. Victory is sight, story, and sound dancing as one.”
Four years in the making, VICTORY was written and recorded between London and France, with stunning visuals filmed across the U.S., UK, and Africa — a cross-continental tribute to Rick’s roots, rich with lyrical depth and cinematic brilliance.
More than just an album, VICTORY is a moment. A movement. A masterpiece. A celebration of culture, resilience, and the power of imagination.
