Leah Collins – Maxxed Out on OWN: Empowering Families with Financial Literacy

Leah Collins' new financial intervention series on OWN reshapes money conversations, legacy planning, and generational wealth

Reframing the Money Conversation

For generations, many Black households have avoided financial conversations, choosing silence over transparency at the dinner table. That silence has carried real consequences. With Maxxed Out, host Leah Collins confronts that reality head-on, placing honesty, accountability, and education at the center of family finance.

We’re expected to master a system we were never taught

Airing on the Oprah Winfrey Network, Maxxed Out treats financial literacy as lived experience rather than abstract theory. The show meets families in real time, exposing how money decisions shape relationships, mental health, and long-term legacy.

In our interview for this article, Leah Collins explores these themes in greater depth during our full conversation. You can view the complete interview below.

Leah Collins built her authority in the financial space through direct experience. During 2017 and 2018, even as her income reached new highs, she watched her finances stagnate once taxes and obligations took hold. Instead of accepting that outcome, she took control.

Within 18 months, Collins eliminated $40,000 in debt, purchased an investment property, and raised her credit score above 800. Those results sparked interest from friends and colleagues, turning personal accountability into professional purpose.

Inside Maxxed Out: Financial Intervention with Purpose

Maxxed Out operates as a financial intervention series. Each episode introduces a nominator, someone directly affected by a loved one’s financial behavior, who brings a nominee forward for help. Collins then walks families through their numbers without hesitation.

The show examines real documents and real decisions, including debt breakdowns, income and expense reviews, credit scores, interest rates, debt-to-income ratios, and estate planning considerations.

Maxxed Out acts as the classroom we all missed

Financial Literacy as Cultural Necessity

Collins consistently emphasizes the connection between financial stability and emotional well-being. Money stress fuels anxiety, disrupts sleep, and strains relationships. When families strengthen their financial literacy, they protect both their resources and their peace of mind.

The full interview with Leah Collins appears below for readers who would like to explore the conversation in more detail.

Premiering Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 9:00 PM Eastern and Pacific on OWN, Maxxed Out delivers more than entertainment. It delivers intervention. Through structure, honesty, and empathy, Leah Collins helps Black families rewrite their financial narratives and build legacies rooted in intention rather than survival.
