From collaborations with artists throughout the city, to his unique engineering of songs, Merc’s influence on the culture of Naptown’s Hip-Hop scene was undeniable.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN MUSIC
Merc had a hand in shaping the sound of a plethora of local rap artists. Alongside his brother Germz they would create Jupe Studios which served not only as place for artists to come record music but functioned as a safe haven for those artists as well.
Artists such as MrWard317, Tony Cleveland, Weirdo Gang, and Pheddi Glock to name a few benefitted from Merc’s ability to create quality tracks. His contributions to the Indianapolis Hip-Hop scene are undeniable.
While never asking for anything in return, Merc’s work ethic shined in all that he undertook. His most recent feature came from the latest anthem “The Prize.” The track features Merc, Skypp, Illy Octane, Jovi Black & Mr. Ward 317. Merc laid down the mix and mastered the track at Jupe Squad Studios.

Kenneth was more than a behind-the scenes engineer and producer. Merc was revered as a supportive and encouraging person. Luke would serve as a mentor figure to many of his peers. His work uplifted several artists by redefining their sound and assisting in releasing their music to the world.
Outside of music, Merc was an advocate for his community. Through his numerous give-back initiatives, Luke was an active participant in bettering his peers and his family.

EDITOR’S TAKE
Kenneth “Merc” Luke was one of the many jewels that allowed Indianapolis to shine in the genre of Hip-Hop. With all of the talent coming from the Circle City, I had not yet got the opportunity to establish a relationship with him. Sure, we may have been in the same rooms, but I was aware of his contributions and looked forward to one day getting the chance to link with him and tell his story. Unfortunately, that opportunity did not happen.
Merc’s influence and the legacy he established will live on through his family, friends and the many artists that he had a hand in bringing to the forefront. Rest well, Merc. You will be missed.
