Motown Gospel/TAMLA Names Justin Tomlinson Vice President of Marketing

The veteran music executive expands his leadership role after more than a decade building campaigns across gospel, R&B, hip-hop and country.

Motown Gospel/TAMLA has promoted Justin Tomlinson to Vice President of Marketing.

The promotion elevates Tomlinson from his previous role as Senior Director of Marketing. He will now lead marketing strategy for the label’s artists and releases.

Tomlinson brings more than a decade of music industry experience to the position. His career has connected artists and audiences across several genres.

“Justin understands how to build a campaign around an artist’s identity and bring that story to the people who need to hear it,” said Walter Thomas, Executive Vice President of Motown Gospel and TAMLA Records. “He pairs creative instincts with a deep knowledge of the gospel audience and the wider music landscape. He has been an important part of our team’s work, and I’m excited to see him lead our marketing efforts in this new role.”

A Career Built Across Genres

Tomlinson began his career with a digital marketing internship at Motown Records/Cash Money. He later moved into talent production at BET Networks.

In 2015, he joined RCA Inspiration. There, he rose through the company’s marketing and digital teams.

His work included campaigns for Kirk Franklin, Kierra Sheard, Travis Greene and Koryn Hawthorne.

Tomlinson later moved into digital strategy at Sony Music Nashville. He also gained global marketing experience at Atlantic Records.

Those roles expanded his experience across country, R&B and hip-hop while building on his foundation in gospel.

That cross-genre perspective has continued to shape his work at Motown Gospel/TAMLA.

As Senior Director of Marketing, Tomlinson helped develop campaigns across the label’s roster. He also supported efforts to connect longtime gospel listeners with new audiences.

His work has included award-winning campaigns for Eric Bellinger, Karen Clark Sheard, Jonathan McReynolds, Ricky Dillard and Tasha Cobbs Leonard.

A Full-Circle Moment

For Tomlinson, the new position also carries personal significance.

“Gospel music has shaped my life and my career, so stepping into this role at Motown Gospel means a great deal to me,” Tomlinson said. “I’m grateful to Walter and the team for their trust, and to the artists who allow us to help tell their stories. I look forward to building thoughtful campaigns that honor the music, serve our artists and create new opportunities for their voices to be heard.”

The promotion places more than a decade of experience behind Tomlinson’s expanded leadership at Motown Gospel/TAMLA.

It also marks a full-circle moment.

Tomlinson began his career with a digital marketing internship within the Motown ecosystem. Years later, he is stepping into an executive leadership position within that same legacy.

Now, he will help shape how Motown Gospel/TAMLA brings its artists, releases and stories to audiences.
