Thxrsday – “O V R T H N K”

Tennessee Alternative Rapper Thxrsday Gets Personal on New Single “O V R T H N K”

Tennessee rapper Thxrsday doesn’t always write songs about his personal life. But with the new single “O V R T H N K,” it was a story that needed to be told.

The song is for anyone who didn’t live up to their own words, letting themselves down and losing love in the process.

Remember it was us

Now we both lost and abandoned

Feeling all ya love

Lately you’ve been feeling embarrassed

At the end of the chorus, he makes a promise that he knows he won’t keep: “I ain’t like the rest, I’ma be right here.” Tragic, and all-too-common.

With a beat from German producer Young Taylor, the track has a familiar alt rap vibe: melodic, with electric guitar, and a hazy, reverb-soaked backing track. The song was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Thxrsday himself.

If the sound has his fingerprints on it, so do the lyrics. Thxrsday describes “O V R T H N K” as the story of two people who become trapped in their own thoughts. When they don’t deal with their problems together, guilt, embarrassment and suspicion pull them apart.

Thxrsday says, “O V R T H N K in particular is my story for sure.”

For Thxrsday, being on the mic was not his first choice. His music career began as a producer for other artists (hence his social handle “prodthxrsday”) with production skills gained as a student at Recording Connection.

A Nashville internship through that program began at the studio of Ric Web, whose resume includes Young Buck, Taylor Swift, even Elvis Presley. Working in Nashville taught Thxrsday the ins and outs of making records, which he carried into his own production work.

In 2023, he decided to focus on his own music. He dropped a mixtape on Soundcloud, which garnered 10,000 streams within a month, he says. With his music resonating, he kept going. SoundCloud has since become his largest platform. Spotify is growing as well, currently approaching 5,000 monthly listeners.

Now comes his latest single, “O V R T H N K.” Released in July, it already has thousands of listeners.

“I feel like I’m putting stuff out there that gives the audience that nostalgic feeling that we had 10 years ago,” he says. “It’s just my sound overall and how it brings that nostalgic feeling.”

That atmosphere draws upon the melodic alternative rap that shaped the previous decade. Thxrsday’s production background allows him to add his own personality.

Thxrsday’s ultimate goal in music is to do it full-time, instead of his manufacturing job in Tennessee. “If music can get me out of my nine-to-five,” he says, “that’s my only goal right now.”
