Brooke Burke-Charvet Talks To Hype About The New “Brooke Burke Body” Fitness App & More

Brooke Burke-Charvet first became famous for her modeling in the early 1990s. Her success as a model led her to hosting the Wild On! series on the E! Network for a few years, which led to plenty of other opportunities within television. Burke truly reached a new level of fame in 2008 when she and Derek Hough won Dancing With The Stars, which then led to co-hosting the show for a few seasons. Burke has also found success as an author, an entrepreneur, an actress, and a spokesperson.

One constant between all of Burke’s roles is that she always appears to be in tip-top shape. Looking to pass on her fitness techniques and the positivity-centeric lifestyle, Burke launched the “Brooke Burke Body” fitness app last month; free trials are now available. As if that were not enough, Burke is the host of The CW’s Hidden Heroes, the star of TV Land’s I Dare You, and the namesake of the Brooke Burke Show podcast. She also remains the CEO of the website ModernMom.com.

I had the pleasure of doing Q&A with Burke, who was both inspirational and honest. Her response to what she wished more people knew about her was both touching and entertaining. More on Burke-Charvet’s various projects can be found at www.brookeburke.com.

Do you have a way of describing your app? Is it intended to be a one-stop tool for someone, no gym membership needed?

Brooke Burke-Charvet: No more memberships needed. And often, no equipment needed. This app is designed to be effective and sustainable and also fun. I’m taking subscribers on a visual journey and showing them how to work out more efficiently in less time — no more excuses! They can target specific body parts and hit the trouble areas and begin to stack and customize their own workouts. I offer total body programs plus bite-size burns like booty, legs, abs and upper body. I’m also celebrating trainers from Los Angeles to New York. And introducing inspirational interviews in the Brooke Burke TV area. The programs are designed for people of any age any fitness level.

Before launching the app, what was your fitness routine like?

Brooke Burke-Charvet: I’ve been teaching a class in Malibu called “Booty Burn,” which is a body lifting sculpting rhythmic experience. I also do hot yoga and a little bit of SoulCycle. I think that cross training is important for total body care. Brooke Burke Body incorporates a lot of different philosophies like those.

Do you listen to music when working out? Any favorite albums or artists?

Brooke Burke-Charvet: Of course I love to lose myself and be inspired by a new playlist. And I think music helps take you on a journey. I’m constantly updating my workout playlist and I encourage everyone to design their own for their own personal motivation. I love remixes, instrumental music and even old-school R&B. Some of my favorites right now are “Papa Was A Rolling Stone” and a Stevie Wonder “Superstition” remix. I love a little old-school Michael Jackson. Of course Beyoncé and Rihanna.

How important is diet to your overall fitness? Do you follow a specific diet or eating plan?

Brooke Burke-Charvet: Right now I am experimenting with intermittent fasting I believe in high fats. I need a Mediterranean-style type of diet. I try to avoid sugars saturated fats packaged foods and flower. I also love the bulletproof coffee concept, starting my day with coffee, butter and coconut oil.

Where do you stand on taking diet cheat days?

Brooke Burke-Charvet: I think all rules are made to be broken. And giving yourself the freedom of a cheat day allows you to sustain a more disciplined way of life. I listen to my body. I absolutely give it what it craves at least one day a week. I don’t believe in fads and quick fix diets. I do believe in developing a healthy lifestyle that you can enjoy maintain.

At what age did you first become interested in fitness? Was there a particular event or person that inspired you?

Brooke Burke-Charvet: I’ve been interested in fitness as long as I can remember. I once did a bodybuilding competition when I was a freshman in high school. I was an athlete growing up and always challenge myself to stay fit and strong. I come from a family of addiction, obesity which showed me exactly what I did not want to become.

I’ve read that you have an upcoming series called I Dare You coming up. What can you tell me about that?

Brooke Burke-Charvet: Yes I’m super excited about this new TV Land project, which went live this week. It’s called I Dare You With Brooke Burke and it’s a series of dares that I will cacept. Our premiere episode was me doing an aerial act, which I trained for at the circus school in just one week. It is exactly what I believe in. Challenging yourself stepping out of your comfort zone and doing things that continuously surprise you. It’s a great message for anyone with an adventurous spirit. I’ve always been an adrenaline junkie so for me this is right up my alley.

Any other upcoming projects you can talk about? Another book?

Brooke Burke-Charvet: I will 100 percent write another book right now my creative juices come to life on my Modern mom blog. I’m fully committed to building the Brooke Burke Body community and to continue to publish new videos to show people how to get the best out of their bodies, and that time should never be an excuse, and that we can be in the best shape of our lives at any age. I’m in my third season of production for Hidden Heroes, which moves to The CW this January. And I’m looking forward to excepting some more thrilling challenges for my TV Land show I Dare You!

When not busy with work, how do you like to spend your free time?

Brooke Burke-Charvet: Fitness is my “me time,” and I spend that with many close friends in sort of a social fitness circle. My children are super-active in sports, so weekends are family time shared supporting them. When I’m at home, being a chef is my passion. I love long hours in the kitchen mixing up family meals. And my husband and I love to entertain… It’s always the more the merrier at our house.

Is there something you wish more people knew about Brooke Burke-Charvet?

Brooke Burke-Charvet: I wish that the illusion of Hollywood could be broken. Within the four walls of my home, my family values and everyday activities look very similar to most blended families raising a brood. My life is an open book. I write and I continuously share my philosophies because I believe there’s so much to learn from one another. One of my greatest gifts and joys has been the ability to connect and inspire other women to live their best lives, be who they want to be, and meet themselves with full compassion when life is challenging.

I raised four children, cheated death a couple times, beat cancer, survived a divorce, raised two teenagers with two more coming up, I’ve been hired and fired by the best in the industry, and I approach every day with a smile, an open mind and heart learning every step of the way. I love my life and the rhythm of dancing through the chaos.

Finally, Brooke, any last words for the kids?

Brooke Burke-Charvet: My children are the greatest teachers I’ve ever had. I’ve learned from them every single day.
