Malakai – Elevate
“In a world thriving on creativity, just be you. Discover all of you.”
An independent contemporary Hip-Hop, R&B and Trapsoul rapper, singer, songwriter and producer. Malakai lives in urban fused melodies and lyrics with rhythm and attitude. Humbled by his exposure to different cultures, the Melbourne, Australian native made his proper debut in 2015, the year in which he released the mixtape, “City of God”, a one-man production that comprised of individually composed instrumentals, recordings, mixing and mastering titles of and on his own. The “City of God” Mixtape that featured 12 tracks of heartfelt and provocative sounds of rap, soul and spoken word broke boundaries and highlighted a much needed change in the local music scene.
Malakai has since resumed recording with his debut EP on the way. Over the years Malakai has held on to his love for sound across a vast number of genres largely due to his upbringings in Mozambique, Tanzania, America and Australia, Only scratching the surface, consistency shall prove to be rewarding if the sounds keep flowing for this bright mind.
As you see yourself, who is Malakai?
I feel more of myself with this new release/single, ‘Elevate’ than I have ever felt before. The visuals for the song show both my creative, and quirk and often at times, witty side of me. I am all about fusion.
Tell us about your current project?
Elevate is the first single to be taken from Malakai’s upcoming debut EP, “Apoll6”, It’s is a song about remaining positive even in the space of hard times. Connecting to happiness whilst overcoming the situations that severed it. There is a vibrant energy and wit to the tone set by Malakai in a song that has a subtle and yet, still colorful change in undertone towards the end of the track.
Recorded at Hard Hustle Recordings (Melbourne), Elevate was produced by Vegas based producer, iDBeatz (Tyga – U Cry, Faithful feat. Tory Lanez, Lil Skies – Regular feat. Taydoe), Mixed by Dan Konopka (OKGo) and Mastered by Ben “iamBNJMIIN” Thomas (Brian McKnight, Post Malone, and Lil Dicky).
What’s on your bucket list to accomplish as an entertainer?
I want to establish a representation on a global scale for up and coming Australian artists. I am one of many, and I believe this current release, will cement that fact. Winning accolades such as Grammy’s is on the agenda too.
What’s on your horizon for 2019?
“Apoll6” EP is due for release around June 6th. Time is now. The belief is real and I have polished style and know exactly what it takes to shake up the game.
The Hype Magazine wants to know: What’s been your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?! Or “WTF?!” moment thus far in your career?
Wouldn’t really say I’ve had one yet. Opening a show, to headlining and touring with certain musicians definitely would be something else haha.
