Bronner Bros 70th Anniversary: Andis Total Competition Show

This years Bronner Brothers International Hair Show was held at the Georgia World Congress Center on February 12, 2017. The Andis Total Look Competition featured 26 of the most qualified barbers throughout the country.

The barbers were challenged to compete on the main stage, as they commanded the attention of an audience that seated over 500 people. They were given only Andis tools to finish the completed look, which made the competition fair, yet challenging for some that are used to using only their own products.

“The best advice I can give is read the rules, because what happens is somebody comes and competes, and does an amazing job on the haircut, but it doesn’t match anything that the judges are looking for,” says host and past winner, Kenny Duncan.

The competitors were given 30 minutes to create cuts that were judged based on style, precision, accuracy, and head contouring. Throughout the competition the contestants were reminded that they were being scored on the precision and accuracy of the cut above all, and not necessarily just the props or extras that accompanied the styles.

Johnnie Akons of Chicago, Illinois, earned first place along with the $500 cash prize, for his re-creation of a jazz era look, complete with a saxophone in hand and sparkly jazz gear. It appeared to be his precise cut, along with the “well put together” theme, that helped him to secure the win.

“I want to thank Andis for the chance to flaunt my creative ability at the Total Look Competition. This honor is no doubt a step in the right direction towards a bright future”, says Akons.
