Jacob Banks – Unholy War
@ rose to popularity with his powerful hit “Monster 2.0” which surpassed over 1M streams in its first week of release. “Unholy War” marks his official U.S. debut, sure to win over music lovers across the world. Banks recently played to a sold out crowd at New York’s Bowery Ballroom and will continue to play venues across the country as a special guest of LÉON on her North American tour. Banks will hit the road again in the Spring to play a string of music festivals including SXSW, Okeechobee, Firefly and more.
Born in Nigeria, Jacob Banks moved to Birmingham in England at the age of 13. Not short of talent, the Brit dabbled in all forms of the creative arts and began singing, playing guitar, and writing songs at the age of 20. A music lover first and foremost, Banks got his start at open mic nights around Birmingham in 2011 and quickly garnered a following for his commanding vocal presence and daringly intimate songwriting. His music features richly textured beats, with its 808s and synth play, as well as African grooves with a nod to 60’s inspired soul. While his vocals come off a cross between Otis Redding and Sam Cooke – all culminating in an unstoppable new sound. In early 2013, Banks released his powerful debut EP The Monologue, earning feverish acclaim that saw him supporting artists such as Emeli Sandé, Sam Smith and Alicia Keys on tour around the U.K. Now, at work on his Interscope Records debut (the follow-up to 2015’s self-released EP The Paradox), Banks hopes to reenergize soul music for a new generation hoping to be their solace in hard times and a battery pack on a slow Monday morning.
