Who Is MC Trizzy?

Coming out of Utica and working the word “winners” in wherever he can, MC Trizzy (@lifeoftrizzyrocketed to fame in 2014. Born Travon Howard, the MC began posting and uploading his hooky, Eastern-influenced brand of hip-hop in 2013. He hit late that year with the track “My Own Style,” and then in early 2014 he dropped the Success vs Fame mixtape.

In 2015, Trizz started his own label, Ruby Recordings, releasing no less than three mixtapes, including a pair of compilations highlighting Ruby artists. That summer, he signed a deal with Diamond District Records and released a single with labelmate Qua Uno, “Ride.”

From the outside looking in, who is Trizzy?

I am an independent recording artist, record producer, and CEO of my own independent label Ruby Recordings. I was born in Utica, NY aka Upstate New York. I’ve been rapping since I was 5 years old but didn’t take it seriously until I was 17. I started making beats when I was 12 years old and in summer 2009, I was a part of a local music group named Dub Club producing 80% of the group music. Currently, I’m the only rapper and producer from Utica, NY recognized as being ‘famous’.

What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?

I was influenced by my family members and mainstream artists and producers such as 50 Cent, Jay-Z, 2Pac, Kanye West, and Dr.Dre. I have 1 brother and sister who sings, 2 brothers and over a dozen of cousins who rap. Once I learned how to make beats, that was my entry into the music industry.

What do you want people to get from your music?

Motivation. My music represents what REAL! actually, means in life. Everything I talk about in my music is things that I’ve witnessed, pain that I’ve felt, and things that I have gone thru to get where I’m at today. I don’t makeup stories in my songs just to get people to like me or think I’m “cool”. I rap about stuff that really happened to me in REAL! life. Stuff that I have gone thru my whole music career. Even if it was being broke, making some money, struggling, heartbroken, working in the studio, always getting asked for free beats and most of all NEVER GIVING UP ON MY DREAMS!!! I want people to know that I am a leader and not a follower. I want people to know why I am the way I am. How I became the person I am today. I want them to know I will never QUIT! It’s too many people in this world who let other people think for them, not me, I think for myself.

Tell us about your current project.

The new EP I’m about to release titled ‘My Name Is Trizzy’ has a total of 6 tracks on the project representing 6 different topics of my life. I explain who I am, what I want in life, who I want it with, where I’m from, where I wanna go, and how imma get there. I just want to bring REAL! back into music and also get some light to shine on my city. There is a lot of dope artists in my city right now but we are not getting any attention from record labels. We have NO music scene, no platform to gain any publicity and I feel it is up to me to make that change even if I have to do it alone. As an artist, you are supposed to paint pictures your listener can visualize. On this project, I’m conversating with the listeners, I’m letting them know the real me, I’m not with all of that fake gangsta rap these other rappers be doing. City’s are only dangerous because all people do is promote violence. How is anything going to get better if all you do is shine the light on all the negative stuff that’s happening? Everybody rapping about the same things. Money, Hoes, Gang, Selling or Doing Drugs, How many Gunz they got. Everybody wanna be “Cool” and do what everybody else does. I wanna be me and do what I’m doing.

For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you as an artist?

My new single “About Me”. I wrote that song as an introduction to my life! I only released a snippet version of the rough draft via Soundcloud and people are loving it. If you check my twitter account, I retweet all the love I get. The exclusive track will be on the project.

Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…

I’m interested in getting into the clothing business and start my own clothing brand. I already have a name for it. I also wanna become an actor as well. Just have to find the right connections. I play all sports, I’m a very athletic person. I play once in a while tho not all the time like I used to.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” aka WTF?! moment…

One time I went to a football game at my old high school and I had on a Trizzy shirt, cause that’s all I used to wear in high school. some cargo shorts I think, some black and red long polo socks I believe, and some Jordans on. As I’m watching the game, I hear someone talking to me and it wasn’t the girl I was with because it was a male voice but long story short, a teenager my age said to me ‘I like your socks’ not my shirt, not my shorts, not even my sneakers and I believe he had on the same pair of socks just a different color and I was just thinking in my head like, ‘these are regular socks, nothing you haven’t seen before’ then I looked at the girl and she was laughing cause she heard what he said, and my exact words was “that was weird” and then we laughed and went and got something to eat.
