Actor Jay Hunter Shares His-Story With The Hype Magazine

Jay Hunter is an actor born and raised in Buffalo, New York.  He has been featured in TV shows and motion pictures such as Animal 2, Max Payne, PlayMakers, and currently Tyler Perry’s If Loving You Is Wrong.

Before his acting career took off Jay was a high school English and history teacher with the Los Angeles School District.

Jay is also an up-and-coming film and television producer who is intrigued by the numerous untold stories in African American history to create content around.

While speaking with us here at The Hype Magazine, Jay shared that he would like to produce a project about Ned Huddleston better known as, Isom Dart. His reputation as a rider, roper, and broncobuster earned him the monikers the “Black Fox” and the “Calico Cowboy.” Huddleston was also a notorious Wyoming Territory outlaw who straddled both sides of the law.  Another historical figure that grabs Jay’s attention is Andre Cailloux. He was a captain from New Orleans during the Civil War as a commanding officer in the Native Guard.  Cailloux retained his rank even after the United States Government made it illegal for African Americans to hold commanding positions.

Jay thinks a great way to showcase to the world these unsung icons in African American history is by partnering with streaming platforms like Amazon, Netflix, and Hulu.  Hunter says,  “I love what these platforms are doing with streaming and I would definitely like to work with any of them in bringing our stories to life. I mean the experience of watching something on the big screen is unparalleled but streaming is the wave of the future. I guess it would just depend on the project and deciding which outlet is the best fit once it’s completed.”

In addition to his entertainment pursuits, Jay has other interests like real estate and humanitarianism focusing on community development, and the educational needs of children.

Be sure to catch Jay Hunter on this season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as the Kree Watch Commander, Tyler Perry’s If Loving You Is Wrong, and in his new film project Acrimony alongside Taraji P. Henson, Lyriq Bent and Danielle Nicolet. The film is scheduled to be released in March 2018.
