West London’s Rukhsana Merrise Drops New Single ‘Child’

Friday December 14th saw West London’s rising singer songwriter Rukhsana Merrise release ‘Child’, the first part of her long awaited debut album ‘Child O Today’ via Communion Records. Part two, ‘Today’ will be released next year.

The new release follows Rukhsana’s recent performance alongside rapper and grime veteran Ghetts on his BBC 1Xtra Live Lounge Show.

An album that explores the struggles of love and self-doubt, ‘Child’ is made up of 6 tracks including previously released singles ‘Could’ve Been’ and ‘Sober’. Boasting an effortlessly soulful voice, Rukhsana shows off her ability to write intricate and meaningful lyrics as she pens tracks that let her guard down and show fans who she is as an artist. Musically, she fuses together a mix of acoustic guitars, upbeat percussion and modern synths to accompany her self-written songs.

Speaking on ‘Child’ Rukhsana says…

”My album was created in the midst of my growing & self discovering. It’s a true reflection of where I once was and currently reside. A lot of people talk about the the before and after and miss the pinnacle stage of overcoming… Child O’ Today is exactly that.”

Rukhsana has been steadily making waves across the UK with a list of collaborators that includes Wretch 32, Ghetts and Avelino. She’s backed this up with a string of impressive live performances at Glastonbury, Citadel and Somersault, as well as supporting the likes of Rag’n’Bone Man, James Bay, Oh Wonder and Michael Kiwanuka.

Overflowing with infectious songwriting and emotive touchpoints, Child is a record that will only enhance Rukhsana’s already glowing reputation as a surefire one to watch.
