Sean Kingston Talks Return to Center Stage and What Music Means to Him

Sean Kingston, multi-platinum artist behind hit songs “Beautiful Girls” and “Fire Burning” just released a powerful new song just in time for the summer. Rhythmic tune “Peace of Mind” ft. Tory Lanez and Davido dropped on Friday, April 26th, across all digital streaming platforms.

“Peace of Mind” is a rhythmic hit featuring Grammy-nominated rapper Tory Lanez, who Sean first worked with in 2012 after signing Tory to his label. The song also features awarding-winning singer-songwriter Davido who Sean approached for the track, having long been a fan of Davido and his unique African sound. “Peace of Mind” describes a time in Kingston’s life where a relationship caused ups and downs, leaving him constantly searching for serenity. Throughout the song, Kingston realizes that the person is going to be the one he always comes back to because they bring him comfort. This upbeat rhythmic tune mixes dance and urban flavor with Sean’s staple Caribbean-pop touch.

Over the last year, Sean has been busy preparing new music to be released. This is the first of many tracks he has ready, and is the lead single in his EP “Made in Jamaica” which will be released in the near future. As an in-demand songwriter, Sean has also been working with stars including T.I., Wiz Khalifa, and Chris Brown writing new material for the artists, and in the past year he has released several singles such as “ Amore e Capoeira ft. Giusy Ferreri, Sean Kingston ” with Italian pop duo Takagi & Ketra, which went on to become the #1 best selling song across all streaming platforms in Italy. He also worked with Spanish pop singer Ana Mena on “ PA DENTRO ”, which charted as a top emerging single in the Latin American market.

The Hype Magazine got Sean Kingston to weigh in on his return to center stage, what music means to him and his new contest with VisitJamaica and Palace Resorts.

What does it mean for you to return center stage?

It means alot for me as music is my everything. I’ve always loved hearing myself on the radio…Like going to my mom’s house and seeing my face on magazine covers. I am just excited to give the world “feel good” timeless music again.

How does “Peace of Mind” fit for you in today’s world-scape of music?

I think “Peace of Mind” fits perfectly as a blend of everything that is going on in music right now as far as the tempo and melody structure… but it also has the original Sean Kingston vibe which separates me from the rest. It’s my own genre I created “hip-pop”.

What do YOU get from music?

I get the energy. I think music sets you free, as soon as you hear a song you love it takes you away from your problems. It takes you on a journey and speaks to your soul…it helps the world. It’s just an amazing feeling when you can listen to the perfect 3-minute song and escape from the world and all the negativity. It just eases your mind and gives you instant happiness.

Last but not least, what’s been your craziest “Where they do that at?!” or WTF moment thus far in your career?

The craziest moment has to be when a fan snuck into my hotel room and hid under my bed. I didn’t notice until I heard a noise and said, “Wtf! Who let you in here?!”. She said her mother was a manager at the hotel and she knew I was checking in and wanted an autograph. I was like “Wow!”. So now when I go into hotels the first place I look is under the bed and in the closets.
