WATCH: Rufus aka Bizarre – Dab (Get High)

Just one month after reintroducing himself to fans as Rufus with the single “Wish I Was High,” Bizarre returns with the second single from his forthcoming self-titled album Rufus.

As he began recording his fourth solo album, Bizarre made what many would consider a bold move in Hip-Hop: to intentionally distance himself from the artistic persona he’s cultivated over the course of a successful 20 year career. “Rufus is my real name. I chose that name because I felt like it was time the fans got to hear my story” he says of the project. But rather than a complete departure from the offbeat style fans have come to know, Bizarre is pivoting towards musical content that encompasses all of who he is and what he’s lived.

Singing his way through Rufus allows Bizarre to tap into a level of vulnerability he might not have been able to reach otherwise. Through this equally emotionally draining and cathartic process, Bizarre shares his real life experiences on everything from his years-long battle with weight-loss; to the ways in which his life has been molded by his stepfather; to the loss of his grandmother, complete with a recording of what would be their last conversation.Rufus becomes the beginning of a new chapter for Bizarre, bringing along the fans that are ready to grow with him, while giving new fans a 360-degree view of who he’s always been.
