Director Robert Adetuyi known for directing “Stomp the Yard”, “Bring It On,” and ” Stomp The Yard” along with writers Juno award winner Danny Schur and Rick Chafe bring The Movie Musical “STAND” to Toronto’s Royal Theater September 9-11“STAND” takes us back to Winnipeg in the depths of violent labor protests and a strike that changed history, involving Ukrainian immigrants and returning soldiers seeking jobs. “STAND” follows a young couple who find love on the streets, amid the turmoil.  Stefan is smitten with the Jewish suffragette Rebecca, but family, turbulent, racial and anti-immigrant times make the would-be Romeo and Juliet face difficult times as they struggle for a better future against a chaotic background.  When politicians, businessmen, law enforcement and a wealthy lawyer, all with their own beliefs, get involved in the turmoil a dramatic and inspirational final stand takes place.

The outcome of these protests are woven into the landscape of Canadian history forever.   “STAND” pulls back the many layers of opposition to get at the heart and sacrifice of what it took to set things right.  “STAND” leaves us with a renewed understanding of what it means to be an immigrant, the journey and why we should care today, moving forward never backwards.

“STAND” stars, Marshall Williams (“Glee”, “How to Build a Better Boy” – Disney), Laura Slade Wiggins (“Shameless”, “Nancy Drew & the Hidden Staircase”), Lisa Bell & Gregg Henry (“Guardians of the Galaxy”, “Scandal”).  Featuring Hayley Sales (“Deadpool 2”).  “Stand” sung by Lisa Bell.  The film won best score (Danny Schur) at the Burbank International Film Festival.
