Time To Shine: C.Y.M

Back Story – Rising R & B singer and songwriter C.Y.M recently released of her new single “Karma” and marked C.Y.M’s first single from her upcoming EP, Love CYM set to launch late December 2019, produced by Grammy-winning duo Ayo N Keyz (Cardi B, Chris Brown, Jaden Smith, etc.).

“I am so excited about my new single ‘Karma’ and to reconnect with my loyal fans while showing a different aspect of my creativity. I had the opportunity to work on this single with Ayo N Keyz to help me bring my vision for this song to life. The song is about pent up anger and frustration from a relationship that felt one-sided with no reciprocity. Writing this song was cathartic because it was coming from personal experience, and I know so many people can relate to moving on from bad relationships on to something better,” says C.Y.M of the song.

C.Y.M first burst on the scene in the summer of 2016, when her infectious hit “Bombs Away” was released with much fanfare. The accompanying music video received thousands of streams on YouTube and plays on Soundcloud, as well as spins from radio stations around the country. The success of “Bombs Away” earned C.Y.M an opening act spot on Tory Lanez’ national “I Told You” tour. Her debut album Shadows, developed in collaboration with K Mack, Liana Banks, Yobo, J-Dot and Rocc featured songs inspired by her varied musical tastes, with references to pop, r & b, Latin and Caribbean tastes. Critics praised C.Y.M’s previous single “Gun Play” featuring Rich Home Quan for its trap-infused beat, with a twist of pop.

Ayo N Keyz says of “Karma,” “When we first heard C.Y.M’s vocals on Shadows, we knew she had something different to offer. Few talents today have the ability to fuse musical genres with such ease. When the opportunity presented itself to collaborate on Love CYM, we jumped on it. We were thrilled to be part of the process and can’t wait for people to hear this exciting new sound”.

Ahead of her album release, The Hype Magazine got C.Y.M to weigh in on a few things

We’d love for you to describe the artist C.Y.M from the outside looking in!

C.Y.M is a talented, multifaceted artist, who is inspired by fashion and dance, writes music and plays instruments. C.Y.M is a vocal acrobat that combines melodic sounds of POP & R&B mixed with a 2000’s flare that the masses can relate to.

What’s your focus with your music?

I want people to feel they aren’t alone when going through life situations. Women tend to live on a rollercoaster of emotions when it comes to work, relationships, and even self-awareness. I want my audience to connect with the lyrics of my music so much that they scream the words at the top of their lungs, because they’ve been through it before.

Can we get some insight into your upcoming project “Love CYM”!

Love Cym is a project full of love, self-realization, and loss. Every song is either a personal experience that I’ve gone through or a love/loss letter to the person the song is about… in which you have to listen and watch carefully to figure out who!

Where does this project lie for you in the scheme of your total body of work?

Love Cym is, by far, my favorite project I’ve worked on. It’s the first time I have put out work that’s sonically and lyrically true to me as a person and artist. I’m so excited for everyone to hear it!

Your visuals are stunning, are you taking the lead behind the lens as well?

My creative director and social media manager Sean Perry and I work together to create my visuals. It’s all a team effort.

Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…

Outside of music, I love modeling. I’ve had the opportunity to shoot with some very talented designers and some major brands. Cooking is another love of mine. It’s a great feeling when your loved ones eat the food you cooked and they’re happy and full lol.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know… What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” aka WTF?! moment…

My craziness WTF moment was a few years ago while I was on tour in LA and dancers and I got out of the sprinter to throw some stuff away in a dumpster. When we got closer we thought we heard a raccoon or something…turned out to be a naked older women high AF jumping out of the dumpster running away from us.. craziest shxt ever lol.
