Australia’s Strath Releases SIMS Inspired Video for “Special”

Australian indie-dream pop artist, Strath has released a SIMS inspired music video for his latest single, “Special.” The wistful song showcases the human need to feel wanted and loved. “This song is about the simple importance of making someone feel special,” explains Strath. “We need to feel appreciated so fundamentally to the point that it can border on being transactional. I don’t think that makes it any less sincere or beautiful.” The accompanying music video shows Strath in the SIMS world, spreading the message of appreciation. The thoughtful video even features a cameo from a Kanye West Sims.

“Our desire to be appreciated is like a meter that needs continual topping up. Just like those bars of emotion in The Sims – the fuller they are, the happier the Sims become. I thought it would be fitting to have that video game be the setting for ‘Special’s music video. Anyone has the capacity to make someone feel special. And when you’re feeling special, it’s even easier to pass it on. No one is immune to the spreading of appreciation — not even Kanye West, as seen in the video.”

Originally from Melbourne, Strath graduated from Harvard before moving to Los Angeles where he seeks to test the boundaries of psychedelic pop. Artists like Frank Ocean, Jamie XX, and Kevin Parker have played a large part in influencing his unique pop sound. Known for his dreamy and optimistic vocals swept across an ethereal, electric soundscape, Strath has already accumulated over 40K monthly listeners on Spotify. Follow Strath on Instagram.
