Skip Marley – From the Outside Looking In

In music, the name Marley is synonymous with greatness, awareness of humankind, and humbly submitted yet powerful songs that move you in SOME direction; you certainly can’t just sit still that’s for certain. Skip Marley is carrying on the family legacy of delivering meaningful music that reaches into you and ignites your spirit to meditate on things other than self. He delivers music that uplifts and drives you to explore more than just money and wealth or the outer trappings of what can appear to be a fulfilled life. Damn, I guess you can say I’m a fan of the young lion and what he’s doing through music.

We all know you from the legendary Marley family and now you are making your individual mark. From the outside looking in tell us how you see Skip Marley!

A youth who deals with love and positive living. One consciousness to unify and liberate the people with a message. For me it’s about the music and the people, not me.

You have one of the most important joints in the country with your collab with H.E.R on “Slow Down” and a recent remix that Wale jumped on. How do you feel about the success of the song and how did it come together?

Blessed, you know? It’s all been positive. The people feeling the music, that’s the best thing for me. The love and the feedback has been great.

Not everyone follows in the footsteps of their elders, what brought you to music?

Growing up everyday I was always around music so it was always within. My uncle brought me onto the stage when I was 14 for the first time. After that I music called me. It spoke to me from my heart and I listened.

How similar is your life now with respect to your early years on the road with your family?

It’s the same. My family move together. We’re one tribe, one unit, pray we growing riper every day

What do you enjoy most about making music?

The spirit, the feeling, the connection, the upliftment, the history, the sounds, the instruments. Everything. The whole thing. I love music!

For the first time listener, is there a song from your body of work that you would recommend as an introduction to you as an artist?

Life was my first song so I’d say to check that one out.

What’s the most important thing we should know about Skip Marley?

That I deal with love and positivity and give thanks to the most high

What’s in the works for you for the remainder of 2020?

More music, a project, some features, and when this is over, some live shows for my people

Any closing thoughts you’d like to share?

Blessings be with you. We’re all together in this struggle. Jah Rastafari!! One Love !!!
