Brisbane’s Syrup Share New Single ‘Turn’

Brisbane’s sweetest alt-pop duo, Syrup, have released their latest single, ‘Turn’. This marks the outfit’s third release for the year, following singles ‘Line’ and ‘Sun’. With a driving bassline and funky guitar riff sure to get you on the dancefloor, ‘Turn’ exemplifies the band’s move to a bolder, more refined sound.

On the single, Harry of Syrup explains; ‘After taking some time stepping back to realign our choices in aesthetic of production, taste and ideas we decided to move along and further down the path of funk. This track was therefore built totally around the bassline and we are stoked that we channelled the energy of the low-end in this case. Lyrically the song takes place in an alternate space where someone is drawing their problems from their environment and is fighting the urge to leave. Tackling the age-old problem of feeling like you’re stuck in a place you don’t want to be and fighting to get out’.

Syrup is the alt-pop project of childhood friends Harry Pratt and Henry Anderson. Originally from Kingaroy, Queensland, the pair bonded through a common love of skateboarding and music. Following some time apart, Anderson and Pratt reconnected, with their friendship and musical talents leading to the creation of ‘Syrup.’ Taking influence from The Cure, David Bowie, Metronomy, and Ariel Pink, Syrup’s sound combines infectious pop conventions with electric synths. Henry’s mature, affecting baritone vocal and melodic guitar work in harmony with Harry’s synth-pop smarts create a treat for the ears and soul.

Syrup ‘Turn’ out now.
