0James Bloor On His New Film “Shoplifters Of The World,” His New “Soft Voice” Series & More
Due out in theaters and via on-demand and digital outlets on March 26, 2021, Shoplifters Of The World was written and directed by Stephen Kijak (We Are X, Stones In Exile, Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of). The film is set within the summer of 1987 when 4 friends — reeling from the sudden break-up of the iconic British band The Smiths — embark on a night out of partying to mourn their musical loss. At the same time, an impassioned Smiths fan takes a local radio DJ hostage at gunpoint and forces him to play nothing but Smiths tracks. With the radio station playing as the soundtrack to their night, the friends go on a self-discovery journey that will transform them forever.
Beyond an excellent soundtrack — which includes 20 songs from The Smiths – Shoplifters Of The World features a dynamic cast. It stars Helena Howard (Amazon’s The Wilds, Madeline’s Madeline), Ellar Coltrane (Boyhood, Showtime’s The Good Lord Bird), Elena Kampouris (Children Of The Corn, Sacred Lies), Nick Krause (Boyhood, The Descendants) and James Bloor (Nat Geo’s Barkskins) with appearances by Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!, Night At The Museum) and Joe Manganiello (HBO’s True Blood, Magic Mike).
The aforementioned James Bloor spoke with me via Zoom on March 18, 2021, as embedded below. We not only spoke about Shoplifters Of The World, but also his new podcast series Soft Voice, life outside of acting, music and New York. More about Shoplifters Of The World is available here, here and here.
