0D.D. Verni On His New “Let’s Rattle” Album, Future Overkill Plans, New Jersey & More
D.D. Verni may be best known as a founding member, bassist and songwriter of the influential New Jersey-based thrash metal band Overkill. He has also generated a fanbase with the Bronx Casket Co., with whom he has recorded 4 albums over the years. Verni’s first solo album was 2018’s Barricade, yet his recently-released 2021 album — credited to D.D. Verni & The Cadillac Band — is titled Let’s Rattle and is an absolute stand-out within Verni’s comprehensive discography, stylistically-speaking.
From Let’s Rattle you can expect high-energy, big band-influenced rock, as inclusive of horns and members of the Brian Setzer Orchestra. As inclusive of “Cadillac Man,” “Shake It Swing It” and “Olivia…That’s Who!” — 2 of those 3 tracks embedded below — Let’s Rattle features 13 tracks (9 originals 4 four covers). The full-length was produced by Verni, mixed by Greg Reely (Coldplay, Sarah McLachlan, Overkill), and recorded in Los Angeles and New Jersey. In support of the album, D.D. Verni & The Cadillac Band recently confirmed their first-ever live show, as scheduled to take place on October 30, 2021 at the Count Basie Center for the Arts’ Vogel venue in Red Bank, New Jersey. This is notably the same (historic) venue where the band filmed its official music video for first single “Cadillac Man.”
On September 28, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with D.D. Verni via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond Let’s Rattle, we spoke about the future of Overkill, musical influences, and hobbies outside of music. More on Verni and Let’s Rattle can be found by clicking here, here, here, here and here.
