YOUNG THUG MAKES SOLO DEBUT AS SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE’S MUSICAL GUEST

Following the monumental release of his groundbreaking album, PUNK, Young Thug makes his solo debut as Saturday Night Live’s musical guest, with this weekend’s show hosted by Rami Malek. Thug performed two tracks from the new project, ‘Tick Tock’ and ‘Love You More’, where he was joined by album collaborators Gunna and Nate Ruess, with Travis Barker on drums and Jeff Bhasker on piano.

On Friday, Thug released his long-awaited and highly-anticipated album PUNK, his second record of 2021 following his and Young Stoner Life Records’ Billboard #1 Slime Language 2. Signaling a new era for him both sonically and aesthetically, Young Thug refers to PUNK as ‘pure’ and presents a vulnerable and emotional body of work that explores themes of love, loss, and honor.

PUNK
features include Gunna, J. Cole, Future, Drake, Travis Scott, Doja Cat, Nate Ruess, and more.

In the run-up to PUNK’s release, Complex launched #YoungThugWeek, a 5-day global content takeover and exploration of what makes Young Thug one of the most iconic and successful rappers of our generation. This included a deep dive interview, where Thug discusses the album’s creative direction, his mentorship of younger rappers like Lil Baby, working with Kanye, and the art of storytelling. Read the interview and other features from the week here.

This week, Thug threw a pre-release party in LA where he celebrated the upcoming drop and ended the night by smashing up a Rolls Royce covered in PUNK graffiti, with collaborators Gunna, Metro Boomin, and others joining in.

Recognized worldwide as the godfather of new wave rap, Young Thug has broken convention at every single turn and reinvented the sound of popular music; his Grammy award-winning, platinum-selling records have paved the way for generations beyond him. In 2020, he achieved fourteen Billboard charting hits with no album release and released records by artists including Gunna and Lil Keed through Young Stoner Life Records, of which he is the Founder and CEO.

Now in 2021, Young Thug leads the charge as a certified cultural tycoon. In addition to hitting #1 on the Billboard charts with Slime Language 2 the album, and owning multiple hugely successful businesses, Thug continues to challenge and redefine the boundaries of culture in his vision of the future with his new record, PUNK.
