A Band for the Ages: RedrumSociety

RedrumSociety is an indie rock band with dark lyrics juxtaposed against upbeat music. RedrumSociety has had their share of struggles since their start in 2008. The band originated in 2008 but took a long break due to drug and alcohol abuse from band members. One member who struggled with addiction is their guitarist and frontman Zach Cohen. Zach struggled with drug and alcohol addiction for a long time but claimed sobriety in July or 2016 and has remained sober since. His sobriety helped relaunch the band in 2018 and push them back into the music scene full force. The band finds inspiration from many artists including Hank Williams Sr, Lou Reed, Dion, Parliament Funkadelic, and Robert Johnson. Zach Cohen has been playing the guitar and writing music for 16 years, starting at just 14 years old. He originally drew inspiration from Bob Dylan’s music, specifically his song “Maggie’s Farm.”

RedrumSociety writes music to help make a connection between themselves and their audience. They aim to give people the feeling that they aren’t alone, and that music can represent their feelings and thoughts. They also hope to help people take the edge off and be able to relax and calm themselves through their music. They recently released the song “It’s Too Late” on Friday, November 19th. This song is about a former girlfriend of Zach Cohen who would not give him any attention until he was happy with someone else. This song sends a relatable message to the relationship struggles many people deal with in their lives.
