Director Skye Borgman On The New Hulu Series “Dead Asleep,” Quiet Riot’s Documentary & More

In a ground-breaking new spin on the true-crime genre, the documentary film Dead Asleep — as produced in association with Sky Crime — flips the traditional thriller narrative to explore a deeper and more troubling mystery. Did a remorseful Randy Herman Jr. really commit a brutal murder in his sleep? Or was it a convenient cover story? Pulse Films has secured exclusive access to Herman and his family, the defense and prosecution attorneys, journalists who covered the case, forensic psychiatrists and world experts in violent parasomnia (sleep-walking) to give viewers an inside look at the shocking twists and turns of the controversial crime. And it is to set to premiere on Hulu on December 16, 2021.

Dead Asleep was directed by award-winner Skye Borgman, who was behind the critically acclaimed documentary Abducted In Plain Sight. Borgman had recently worked with Pulse Films on their Oxygen special The Case Died With Her. The film that put her on my personal radar was the documentary Quiet Riot: Well Now You’re Here, There’s No Way Back, on which Borgman served as its cinematographer. Further interesting about Borgman is that she has traveled to over 60 countries, lived on 3 continents, and filmed all sorts of folks, including rock stars, prime ministers, drug addicts, environmentalists, Academy Award winners, murderers, Buddhist nuns and anarchist chocolate makers alike.

On December 3, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Skye Borgman via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond Dead Asleep, we spoke about her creative process, future projects and Quiet Riot. More on Borgman and Hulu’s premiere of Dead Asleep can be found by clicking here, here, here and here.
