0Will Hunt On Drumming For Evanscence, Co-Founding Tempest With Members Of Bad Wolves, Filling In For Tommy Lee & More
Tempest is not your conventional band. The project came together among conversations between friends during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the initial COVID-19 lockdown, Poisson was active in the social media world, conducting interviews on live platforms to continue to keep the music artists and his brand in the public eye with so many people out of work and bored. These interviews led to the initial conversation between Poisson and drummer Will Hunt about having some fun and doing a couple covers to keep busy. Selecting 2 songs to work on, the band agreed on “Sober” by Tool to cover first. And when drummer Joey Jordison from Slipknot passed away unexpectedly last year, the band decided to honor Jordison and Slipknot by doing a cover of “Dead Memories” as well.
The aforementioned lead singer of Tempest, Ron Poisson, is the owner of the clothing brand Cult Of Individuality, which has been worn by members of Breaking Benjamin, Bush, Papa Roach, Motley Crue and Guns N’ Roses; aside from owning Cult, Poisson is also the frontman for a local New York Cover band, Fools For Kings. Will Hunt is the drummer of Evanescence, and other credits of his include Skrape, Dark New Day, Black Label Society, Staind, Static-X, Motley Crue, and Slaughter. Guitarists Doc Coyle and Chris Cain and bassist Kyle Konkiel are all members of Bad Wolves, beyond other credits. Yet Tempest in no ways strives to be a “supergroup,” letting its music doing the talking.
On February 2, 2022, I had pleasure of speaking with Will Hunt via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond Tempest, we spoke about his upcoming project with Stone Temple Pilots’ Jeff Gutt, the influence of Motley Crue on him as a musician — a band which he briefly played with live — and his long-term career in music. More on Hunt and Tempest can be found online by clicking here, here and here.
