The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) recently hosted its annual ASCAP Women Behind the Music event at Nua in Beverly Hills. Presented by the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul department, ASCAP Women Behind the Music recognizes and encourages female trailblazers in the music community by honoring songwriters, artists and executives across the industry.

Celebrated this year as distinguished industry leaders making an ongoing impact on music and entertainment culture were Grammy Award-winning songwriter and recording artist Joelle James (“Boo’d Up” performed by Ella Mai), Femme It Forward Founder and CEO Heather Lowery, and Nixon Peabody LLP Entertainment Attorney Carron Joan Mitchell, Esq. Entertainment host and influencer Robin Ayers also took over @ASCAPUrban’s Instagram stories for the night and shared photos and videos, giving viewers a special inside look at the prestigious event. Other notable attendees included Saweetie, KJ Rose, and Miss Diddy.

Guests, media, and influencers joined the honorees to recognize and celebrate their respective accomplishments. During the event, honorees were presented with personalized plaques by Nicole George-Middleton, ASCAP’s Senior Vice President of Membership, Rhythm & Soul. Attendees enjoyed a high-spirited reception with music provided by Moonbaby (Music Supervisor/Moonbaby Media).

Previous ASCAP Women Behind The Music honorees include Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriters Kandi Burruss and Kelly Rowland, Roc Nation Co-President Shari Bryant, Co-Head of A&R at Interscope Geffen Nicole Wyskoarko, hip-hop legends Salt-N-Pepa, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriters Jazmine Sullivan and Victoria Monét, legendary musician and singer Sheila E., Capitol Records Vice President of Artist Relations Brittney Davis, Grammy Award-winning production and songwriting duo Nova Wav, EVP and Head of Music Industry Partnerships at Amazon Phylicia Fant and more.
