Artist Spotlight: ChRZA “Walk Away” Music Video Premiere and Pop Music Review
ChRZA, Pop RnB artist hailing from New York City, has dropped her debut single WALK AWAY early this year and the music video has been catching some buzz. The upbeat, hook-heavy jam is a feel-good track that connects with single ladies (and gender identifying) worldwide. From the opening notes of the song you can tell this is definitely one of those NSFW bangers, and the new music video hits NO DIFFERENT. If there’s anything Meg the Stallion has shown us though is that Hot Girl $hit isn’t meant to be polite. Check out the sexy and LGBT Friendly bombshell for yourself, it combines two things we love: hip hop and breakup songs that say “Go Fu*k urself”.
ChRZA’s voice is both smooth and playful throughout Walk Away however, from listening you can tell there is more hiding behind that spontaneous take-it-or-leave-it pop energy, it’s fair to suggest she may surprise everybody vocally the way Miley did us after 2013. Don’t let this fun lil sing along fool you, just like Miley, this girl has range. When she pops, don’t say Hype didn’t call it first. She knows what she’s doing and “Walk Away” is fitting right in with the latest off-the-cuff tracks that’s gracing the Billboard Hot 100, (I’m lookin at YOU Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl”) and that’s not a bad thing. Besides, the times where a woman needed to maintain a certain image in order to be respected as a vocalist are over. Creative expression and freedom to act up and loosen up with your art is what we are on for 2023. We all don’t need to be so damn serious all the time. Life is too short for anything less. One minute an artist might be twerking and having a ball, the next she is delivering jaw dropping renditions to Rock & Roll classics. Better just sit back and get used to it! Judge a book by its cover if you want to but, the saying goes “change with the times or eat thy words”, or something like that. Anyway, ChRZA seems to be an undiscovered powerhouse to be reckoned with and we’ve seen this play enough times to know what’s coming next.
ChRZA (a combination of her birth name Christina and Hip Hop legend “The RZA”) is hiding in plain sight but, she’s not fooling nobody here. The singer’s latest single is inspired by a rough breakup and the story of how her close friends/dance-mates (featured in the video) “rescued her from low self worth and got her off the couch years ago” as reported by iHeart radio. Walk Away is the result of her “reclaiming” her feminine power and self worth after the split. It’s a familiar story that leads to a cycle of #1 GOOD music: You’ve got the initial “eyebrow raising” single debut, a vulnerable follow up hit, and an explosive display of talent packaged up into an album that is on the horizon. It’ll seal the deal for the coming of a ChRZA first “Era”.
After dropping the promo for Walk Away on her Instagram ChRZA made mention of her friends and dance crew: “I disappeared for years and kept silent through so much…—Thank you to all who’ve supported me and encouraged me to express myself as I TRULY AM.”
