Meet Kansas City Producer “SkeetSkurt”
Darien Woods, known by his stage name SkeetSkurt, is an independent music artist hailing from Kansas City. He started his music career by playing musical instruments in school and then moved to producing instrumentals, putting lyrics straight from his mind on them, and creating his own unique style. SkeetSkurt is a passionate artist who has built his own studio from scratch with professional equipment and formulated his career independently.
Despite facing obstacles, such as marketing and promotion, SkeetSkurt has achieved half a million streams independently without promotion. His music is full of substance, bars, and lyricism with original beats made by himself. He does not use autotune or mumble, allowing his authenticity and unique sound to come through. He listens to all types of music, from Tupac Shakur to Maroon 5, and draws inspiration from jazz.
SkeetSkurt is not signed to any label and wants to stay independent while building positive connections and relationships with other passionate artists. He aims to make residual income along the way and develop a merch line. He is most proud of learning how to make songs from scratch, including cover arts and writing all his own lyrics, developing his own style as a producer and artist. He has also collaborated with other artists to create successful projects, such as Sirelda Garcia aka Sissi, with whom he created the album “CROSS COUNTRY”. The album hit 24k streams in the first 48 hours of its release in January 2023.
SkeetSkurt faces challenges with social media marketing, but he realizes the importance of it to grow his fanbase. He wants his listeners to take away the authenticity in his voice, unique sound, and beats he makes himself. SkeetSkurt has big plans for his music career, including building a studio again, offering all services needed to create timeless projects, and releasing the album “SKEET BEATS 2” showcasing some local artists he works with and Sissi from Switzerland.
